Collaboration within SOLVE allows us to learn from others within the consortium and apply our own research in a much broader context. Through SOLVE we are aiming to share our expertise and help advance #SSB research further than we could alone. 🎤 What exactly is your role in the project? 🎙Our role involves characterisation of #chemistry and structure of #battery components to gain insights into the materials and processes involved in the batteries made in SOLVE. We will use a range of advanced techniques ranging from #electron microscopy, through secondary ion mass #spectroscopy to X-ray #photoelectron spectroscopy and more. 🎤 Can you present us an object/equipment/component/or something that illustrates this participation? 🎙This is an image from one of our recent papers showing the capabilities of our #electron microscopy approach. It shows a novel thin film #cathode material made of Fe and LiF where after cycling the cathode is 'restructured' at the nanoscale with larger particles and changed chemistry (Fe migrates towards the Ti current collector). This spontaneous restructuring results in improved electrochemical performance. Importantly, this process is only possible to probe thanks to the high resolution of electron microscopy. We are looking forward to studying processes similar to this in the batteries from SOLVE.
