On November 19, 2024, the EU adopted the Forced Labor Regulation (FLR), which prohibits placing products made with forced labor on the EU market, including online sales. The regulation applies to all products, industries, and companies—both within the EU and abroad—across all stages of the supply chain. It will take effect in three years. The European Commission will release additional guidelines for companies in the coming months, detailing what information will be required during an investigation. However, companies should not wait for these guidelines to begin assessing risks and preparing their supply chains. In our latest blog, we break down the EU Forced Labor Regulation (FLR) and what companies can expect next: https://hubs.ly/Q02Zl7sB0

Today, the EU Parliament voted on 9 amendments to the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR), approving 8 of them. Key changes include a 12-month delay in enforcement, moving the implementation date to December 30, 2025, and the introduction of a "No-Risk" country category for nations with strong anti-deforestation measures. What does this mean for companies? Companies must take advantage of the 12-month delay to ensure their supply chains are fully compliant with the regulation. This is an opportunity to not only pre-screen suppliers for deforestation risk but also for legality, in line with the latest Implementation Guidance from the EU Commission. In our latest blog post, Sourcemap's in-house policy team provides an overview of the approved amendments and an updated timeline as trilogue negotiations resume Read more: https://hubs.ly/Q02Yg-vC0

In early October, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) added steel and aspartame companies to its official Entities List. This follows several months of significant additions, including seafood and footwear companies, as well as manufacturers of critical raw materials like aluminum, copper, and magnesium. The U.S. remains committed to preventing goods produced with forced labor from entering the market. As this focus on supply chain due diligence and forced labor enforcement grows, companies must utilize effective tools to ensure their supply chains are free from forced labor.
