It’s Official! 🥳 We are excited to share that the Mossy Branch Battery Facility is operational and serving Georgians! 🔌 ⚡ What is the Mossy Branch Battery Facility? 🔋 The Mossy Branch Battery Facility is a state-of-the-art 65-megawatt battery energy storage system. This facility is designed to enhance grid reliability, support renewable energy integration, and provide valuable insights into the operation and optimization of large-scale battery storage systems. ⚡ What does this mean for Georgians? Battery storage can enhance grid reliability, support renewable energy integration, and provide economic and environmental benefits. 🛠️ As our Chairman and CEO Kim Greene states, “Battery energy storage is an example of a new technology that will make our grid more reliable and resilient every day, and especially during extreme weather events.” How does this relate to Hydro and Solar Power? ☀️ 💧 Georgia Power is proud to serve Georgians with clean, safe, reliable, and affordable energy. We use a diverse mix of energy sources including as hydro and solar power. While these sources are abundant, they come with a significant challenge: water levels fluctuate 🌧️, and the sun doesn't always shine ⛅ – which leads to fluctuations in energy supply. Battery storage systems are designed to address this issue by storing excess energy generated during peak production times and releasing it when production is low👇, or demand is high👆. This capability promotes a steady and reliable supply of electricity, regardless of the variability in renewable energy generation! 🔋 Mossy Branch Battery Facility is just one of the many ways we are building the grid of the future in Georgia! 🔌 ⚡ For more information, visit https://lnkd.in/eaBfZjxQ
This Veterans Day and every day Southern Company is proud to celebrate those who have served our country. That's why we are proud to spotlight Larry, a Navy veteran who has found a new way to serve at Southern Nuclear. After 26 years of service and traveling around the world, Larry now works as a project manager at Plant Farley in his hometown of Dothan, Alabama. Larry's dedication to his fellow veterans is truly inspiring. As Farley’s veterans’ advocate, he developed the Wall of Honor to recognize the service of veterans at the plant. He also spearheads the Traveling Flag Project, where an American flag tours sites of historical and military significance in honor of station veterans. “The Traveling Flag Project highlights important conversations between veterans and non-veterans,” Larry says. The flag has flown at iconic locations like The Alamo, Yorktown Battlefield, the USS Eisenhower, and Pearl Harbor. Join us in celebrating Larry and all our veterans for their service and continued contributions. Read more about Larry’s journey and the Traveling Flag Project here: https://lnkd.in/ePJvSXTA

#HurricaneHelene made landfall in late September as a Category 4 hurricane and impacted nearly 6 million customers in 10 states. An army of more than 50,000 workers from at least 41 states, Washington, D.C., and Canada was dedicated to the Helene response—one of the largest and most complex industry restoration efforts in U.S. history. Less than two weeks later, a second mutual assistance mobilization got underway as #HurricaneMilton approached Florida.
