Too much money, too soon—it’s a classic early-stage mistake. In this conversation from Episode 8 of the VHTB Podcast, Justus Kilian (from Space Capital & Space Talent) and I talk about the difference between first-time founders and serial entrepreneurs. First-timers often measure success in dollars raised and team size, while seasoned founders focus on product-market fit first. Our partners over at Esri and SkyWatch created a new app: users can add fresh Maxar Technologies satellite imagery to their ArcGIS accounts. This augments the Maxar basemaps that are already available to ArcGIS users via Living Atlas of the World. Now, users have access to a seamless foundational basemap of Earth and the most current satellite imagery to fit a growing diverse set of mapping needs. Got to Interview Palmer Luckey and David Limp this week. Here's what I learned: 🚀 Palmer Luckey (Founder of Anduril Industries) - "We don't need AI for cats." The defense industry has gone from being avoided by top talent to becoming a prime opportunity for innovation. - "Even the bad ideas are getting funded. You could be one of them!" Startup founders have never had a better opportunity to secure funding for Defense Technology solutions. - Anduril changed the industry focus and became a defense tech product company, rather than a traditional defense prime. By funding their own R&D, they are more agile, innovative, and competitive than companies developing on Cost-Plus contracts. - AI is auditable, making it suitable as an aid in defense applications, with applications from drones to battlefield decision-making. 🌌 Dave Limp (CEO, Blue Origin) - The Moon is the focus—a base there would enable lower-energy launches for deeper space missions. - Blue Ring, their new orbital platform, functions like an aircraft carrier in space, maneuvering payloads dynamically. - Space tech is improving exponentially, making big ideas more feasible. Two different industries, but a common theme: The future belongs to those willing to challenge legacy models. My incredible classmates, James Park and Jack Strauss interviewed Tim Kopra and Peter Ingram, with Sonia Hernandez closing out the evening. Thanks to Nishi Kelkar, Ethan Klein and Alex Lubkin for helping make this event possible. Were you there Monday? What are your thoughts? Drop them in the comments.👇

Operating a fleet of 7k+ vehicles in space without losing your mind is hard. We make it happen 24/7/365 at Starlink, and my team is a big part of that: - We build and maintain the main command, control, automation and monitoring interface for all Starlink assets. Frontend, Backend, sometimes even on-vehicle code. - We oversee data pipelines that process GBs/second, ensuring that correct operators are notified immediately when anomalies occur. Lots of cool streaming paradigms. Seems intriguing/cool/exciting? Apply here: https://lnkd.in/g35msNMt , hiring for Hawthorne, CA and Redmond, WA. BTW. For a change, this post was NOT written/smoothed by AI :)

I've been lucky to work at incredible companies throughout my recruiting career. I've been at the table with exceptionally effective engineering leaders. What do they look for? Below is my general resume advice; take it or leave it. But there are brilliant individuals getting left on "resume read" because they've poorly articulated their experience. - No colors, no photos, no personal information. Nothing distracting, keep it to the point. - 1" margins, content should be easily digestible, easy on the eyes. Keep it 1 page unless you have a PhD or 10+ YOE. Show the interviewer you can be concise! - Shorthand the writing. Imagine you're the hiring manager with loads of resumes to review back to back. Re-read every line and trim it down until you get maximum impact in the least amount of words. - Strong action verbs! Are you leading or supporting? Are you executing or maintaining? - If you're compelled to create a summary, keep it 3 sentences or less. - Think of your resume like prime real estate and use your best and most relevant exp, not everything. First bullet point should be the TLDR of your responsibilities. Then, the order of your bullet points matter! Most relevant/impressive to least. Keep bullet points no more than 5 per job. - Do not copy/paste job functions. Each bullet point should tell its own story and lead the interviewer to ask about projects you've excelled at. Formula is: Achieved/Accomplished X, by doing Y, measured by Z. Then in the interview - follow up with your lessons learned. - Majority of bullet points should provide a metric [$/%/time saved -- list a number that displays productivity]. How have you gone above and beyond? How has your work impacted the bottom line of the business? If you've done the above, feel free to put it into a nice template. There are loads of free ones on Canva, don't pay for one! If there's interest, I can create another post about prepping for interviews.
