QGIS Hands-on Training Manual QGIS is open source, GIS software that supports data viewing, editing, and analysis capabilities. It allows users to create maps using different data layers, which can be assembled and utilized for a variety of functions; a tool to create analysis for Disaster Risk Assessment. The software is easy to install and can be used to prepare thematic maps and to establish a systematic database for the national, regional, and local level, in both urban and rural locations. The major advantage of QGIS, in comparison to commercial software is that it is free to download online, where most of the commercial software is proprietary and can be very costly. In QGIS, the shape files prepared in other GIS are easy to open, and the icon menu is very user friendly and quite similar to commercial software such as ArcGIS. Aux côtés de l'ANPN - Agence Nationale des Parcs Nationaux du Gabon, à travers la #CelluleScientifique, des archéologues gabonais et français 𝐨𝐧𝐭 𝐫é𝐯é𝐥é 𝐝𝐞𝐬 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐞𝐬 𝐝𝐞 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐮𝐫𝐬-𝐜𝐮𝐞𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐮𝐫𝐬 𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐝𝐞 𝐩𝐥𝐮𝐬 𝐝𝐞 𝟐𝟓 𝟎𝟎𝟎 𝐚𝐧𝐬 ! Ces fouilles sont essentielles pour mieux comprendre l’histoire des populations qui ont habité les forêts du #bassinduCongo. 🧰 Les recherches menées sur ce site exceptionnel ont permis la découverte d'objets tels que des pierres taillées, des ossements, des graines, et bien plus encore. Ce matériel précieux aide les scientifiques à reconstituer les interactions entre l’homme et la nature dans un environnement longtemps jugé inhospitalier. Un élément clé de ce projet est 𝐥’É𝐜𝐨𝐥𝐞 𝐝𝐞 𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧 𝐞𝐧 é𝐜𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐢𝐞 𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥𝐞 (É𝐜𝐨𝐓𝐫𝐨𝐩), qui est à sa 4ᵉ édition et qui forme des étudiants venus de tous horizons en les impliquant directement dans ces recherches. Today is World Ozone Day Did you know there is a link between ozone protection and the climate crisis? Find out why EIA is campaigning tirelessly to strengthen the Montreal Protocol. In the 1970s, research revealed a significant hole in the ozone layer above Antarctica. The cause was man-made atmospheric chemicals related to everyday appliances and products. The ozone layer acts as our shield against solar radiation. Without it, exposure to levels of high UV-B and UV-C would make life on Earth impossible. Damage from excess UV radiation reduces the capacity of our natural ecosystems to store carbon. And ... many of the ozone-depleting substances most harmful to the ozone layer, are also powerful greenhouse gases! Fortunately, the world united in 1987 to sign the Montreal Protocol, promising to phase-out the use of the worst ozone damaging gases. Today the Montreal Protocol has phased out more than 99% of the production of CFCs and HCFCs. The Kigali Amendment saw countries agree to phase-down the use of yet another gas; HFCs. However, threats to both the ozone layer and the climate remain such as; - Production emissions - Nitrous oxide emissions - Leaks from old products And that’s why EIA is campaigning tirelessly to strengthen the Montreal Protocol further ... to ensure it continues to deliver ozone protection and climate action, long into the future!
