PrEP (Pre-exposure Prophylaxis) is a powerful tool in HIV prevention that is available to all sexually active individuals, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity. It is crucial to make PrEP a part of routine sexual health discussions, especially following regular checkups to continue empowering patients to make informed decisions about their well-being. Let’s break the stigma and ensure that every individual has the opportunity to access the resources they need for optimal sexual health. How are you integrating PrEP discussions into your practice? #feelgoodhere #prepawareness

While Black communities have made significant strides in reducing HIV, Black gay and bisexual men, as well as Black women, continue to face disproportionately high rates of new diagnoses. A staggering 41% of all new HIV diagnoses are among Black individuals, yet only 12% of PrEP recipients are from this community. As healthcare providers, it is crucial that we create safe, stigma-free spaces where Black patients can access prevention, treatment, and support without fear or discrimination. Addressing the racial and economic barriers that limit access to care will help ensure that every individual—regardless of background—has the opportunity to protect their health. These changes might include inclusive signage, gender-neutral restrooms, staff training on LGBTQIA2S+ cultural competency, and fostering an atmosphere of respect and understanding.
