"Quite literally...behind the scenes...but from the artist's perspective", curator Kim Spence on G.C. Coxe's "Still Life #3". This is a view from the back side of that piece in our collection. Like Paul Cezanne, Coxe maps out his ideas on the back side of the canvas before starting the painting process. This is a rare look into how artists lay out an idea and then move forward. Notice how the final layout is a tad different than the final version. Louisville's Black Avant-Garde: G.C. Coxe opens in June 2025. 🎨 Gloucester Caliman Coxe, Still Life #3, Acrylic and metal on canvas with painted wooden frame

I had the privilege of seeing Maria at the Speed Art Museum Cinema tonight, and it was nothing short of amazing! Academy Award®-winner Angelina Jolie brings the legendary Maria Callas to life in this powerful portrayal of one of the most iconic performers of the 20th century. Directed by the brilliant Pablo Larraín, Maria takes us through the final days of the American-Greek soprano, as she reflects on her extraordinary but tumultuous life in the public eye. Jolie's performance is breathtaking, capturing both the grandeur and vulnerability of Callas. If you're a fan of opera, history, or just incredible storytelling, don’t miss out. Catch Maria at Speed Cinema – it's a film you won't want to miss! https://lnkd.in/gBu7-jtE

Did you know that the Louisville film production scene is thriving? Seriously, so many filmmakers are from Louisville and are actively coming to Louisville to film. Can Louisville get its own Hollywood sign now? 🤔 Don't miss Maqluba and The People Could Fly at the Speed Cinema, on November 17 & 24 respectively.
