🌎 Science Systems and Applications, Inc (SSAI) is thrilled to be part of NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration’s Westcoast & Heartland Hyperspectral Microwave Sensor Intensive Experiment (WH2yMSIE) mission, where our Senior Research Scientist, Stephen Nicholls, played a pivotal role in advancing atmospheric science! This was a successful month-long airborne field campaign that ended this past Friday, November 15, 2024, and it achieved all of its objectives! As both Lead Forecaster and Mission Scientist, Stephen helped validate the groundbreaking Conical Scanning Millimeter-wave Imaging Radiometer Hyperspectral (CoSMIR-H) sensor, which operates in microwave frequencies with 6,148 channels! This tech goes beyond existing infrared and microwave sounding tools, penetrating clouds and smoke with unprecedented detail to deliver crucial insights for: Improved weather forecasting 🌦 Global temperature monitoring 🌡 Wildfire detection 🔥 Agricultural and safety applications 🌾👨🚒 By flying in diverse conditions—over oceans, land, and clear skies—the mission is pushing the boundaries of planetary boundary layer measurements.
