Influential teachers and professors have helped shape our start in life. Who is a teacher that you want to acknowledge for your success? And who was the influential professor that Jonathan Boulos alludes to in this video who played a large part in getting SJFS started?

"Everyone wants to make good decisions." You can't just jump to a good decision without following a process. Jonathan Boulos shares more in this clip.

We can't wait to have you fully on board Abigail Spence! Have a strong finish during your time at Franciscan University of Steubenville.
I’m so happy to announce that I have accepted the position of Client Advisor with St. Joseph Financial Services. I’ll start training in June following my graduation from Franciscan University of Steubenville. The SJFS team in South Bend, Indiana showed consistent generosity, hospitality, and kindness throughout my interview process. I’d especially like to thank Doug Erla and Brenda Cannella for their time and consideration during my visit to South Bend. I’d also like to thank my professor, Alyssa N. Kerker, MBA for her support and guidance during my job search. Thanks for opening the door and introducing me to such a wonderful company! I look forward to this summer where I will start the next chapter of my life, using my accounting skills to directly serve the mission of the Church through the finances of its parishes and regional schools. Deo gratias!

‘Tis the Season of 1099 Filing by Mary Ann Stange, Client Advisor - Senior As an accounting firm servicing Catholic parishes and Schools, we truly embrace the Reason for the Season and look forward with anticipation to celebrating Christmas with all of our clients. In the accounting world, it is also the season to begin to prepare for annual tax filings, like Form 1099. Form 1099 is a series of forms used by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) to report various types of income other than wages, and salaries. The information necessary to file Form 1099 is found on Form W-9, where the individual or entity discloses their tax information for filing purposes. This would pertain to any expenses to entities or persons outside of payroll. Examples include painters, private IT contractors, accounting services, plumbers, etc. More specifically, Sole Proprietorships, Individuals, Partnerships, and LLCs that are Single member, LLC or LLC-P. Form 1099 is not required for supplies, merchandise, or inventory. However, if you’re paying a plumber for parts and services, you would want to include the full total in the filed 1099, as the plumber would be responsible for reporting the cost of goods sold on their Schedule C. Tax forms can feel complicated and overwhelming if you’re not accustomed to filing them. Luckily, St. Joseph Financial Services can help. Team-wide we enacted our robust process for reviewing eligible vendors in our clients’ expenses in preparation for year-end tax filing due January 31st. Additionally, we ensure all of our clients are in compliance with IRS standards, to have a physical copy of a signed W-9 on file for each 1099 vendor. Our knowledgeable professionals take all of the guesswork out of 1099 filing and are engaged to file Form 1099 on behalf of our clients. Make financial clarity your New Year’s Resolution with St. Joseph Financial Services.

Steve Walsh Joins SJFS as a Client Advisor Manager Brenda Cannella - COO We have a new Client Advisor Manager on our team! Steve Walsh, CPA is based in Granby, Colorado, and has a long and impressive resume prior to joining us. Originally from Maryland, Steve has an accounting degree from Virginia Tech and started his career as an auditor with Ernst & Young. He and I first met when we worked together on the accounting and finance team at FOCUS where he made great contributions during his 8+ years on staff. Recently, Steve was Controller at CFO Share where he gained valuable experience that is directly applicable to our work at SJFS. Steve's team will consist of Senior Advisors who service key growth areas throughout the country. We've done a great job of identifying new, hungry talent for manager roles and it's great to add a peer to that group with experience leading teams of outsourced accountants and working within the Church to help them continue to grow as a group. I’m so excited to have Steve on the team and look forward to the experience that he’ll bring!

Revisiting these outsourced accounting predictions from Forbes earlier in the year to see how they progressed. Although predicting the Scarcity of Accounting Talent, Increased Cybersecurity, and Advancing Technology seem to be obvious trends, many Catholic organizations haven't addressed these needs in 2024. We can help - reach out (info@stjfs.org) to plan for 2025. https://lnkd.in/g6t-m9RU

We're not sure what the company Christmas present will be this year, but there's a good chance bags of gold won't appear like those given by St. Nicholas. That's ok, as long as it's not a fruitcake I'll be thankful. Happy St. Nicholas Day! From https://lnkd.in/gzm7gkuZ One story tells of a poor man with three daughters. In those days a young woman's father had to offer prospective husbands something of value—a dowry. The larger the dowry, the better the chance that a young woman would find a good husband. Without a dowry, a woman was unlikely to marry. This poor man's daughters, without dowries, were therefore destined to be sold into slavery. Mysteriously, on three different occasions, a bag of gold appeared in their home-providing the needed dowries. The bags of gold, tossed through an open window, are said to have landed in stockings or shoes left before the fire to dry. This led to the custom of children hanging stockings or putting out shoes, eagerly awaiting gifts from Saint Nicholas. Sometimes the story is told with gold balls instead of bags of gold. That is why three gold balls, sometimes represented as oranges, are one of the symbols for St. Nicholas. And so St. Nicholas is a gift-giver.
