STAAR exists to raise critical funds for life-saving research for those with low-grade ovarian cancer.
About us
STAAR exists to raise critical funds for life-saving research for those with low-grade ovarian cancer. STAAR was co-founded by three low-grade ovarian cancer thrivers in early 2020. The foundation exists to fund research for better treatment options for low-grade serous carcinoma, a rare (less than 10% of ovarian cancer cases) and extremely underfunded subtype. Low-grade serous carcinoma is often labeled as a "tricky opponent" by clinicians because it acts differently than more common subtypes - it grows slower and is often chemo-resistant, leaving fewer treatment options. The average age of diagnosis is 18 years younger than ovarian cancer overall, meaning that many diagnosed are young moms or never got a chance to have children. Research dedicated to low-grade ovarian cancer is desperately needed to give women a chance at longer lives. For more information on low-grade serous carcinoma, please visit our friends at Cure Our Ovarian Cancer, the leading global charity dedicated to low-grade research.

Congratulations to STAAR Chair Nicole Andrews for being honored with a World Ovarian Cancer Coalition award! "When we began Voices of LGSOC and Step Up America for Ovarian Cancer, STAAR had a simple but powerful vision: To give every woman a stronger and clearer voice and to ignite awareness across all communities," Nicole says. "I’m grateful for the partnerships built. This award is not only a recognition of ingenuity and dedication, but it’s a testament to the incredible strength found in collaboration and shared purpose. Together we're amplifying awareness, igniting hope, and most importantly, creating lasting change." https://lnkd.in/gAp4eWGX #lgsoc #ovariancancerawareness

Wondering what to give your loved one who has everything—including low-grade serous ovarian cancer? How about a donation that will go directly to research that could give them more time? STAAR is entirely run by volunteers and committed to improving outcomes for this highly recurrent and persistent disease. When you donate at staaroc.co/give, we’ll send you a certificate to give to your loved one with LGSOC. #CyberMonday #GivingTuesday

One thing we know for sure, LGSOC cells are different than high-grade serous ovarian cancer cells. STAAR is extremely grateful to researchers like Drs. Gershenson and Wong, and proud to help fund their research, recently published in Academia Oncology. #LGSOCAwarenessDay #OvarianCancerAwarenessMonth #cancerresearch
