Starlab Space is a global joint venture between Voyager Space, Airbus, Mitsubishi Corporation, and MDA Space to provide orbital services and enable world-changing discoveries and solutions through an international network of partners. The two main priorities of Starlab Space are the design, development, and operation of the commercial Starlab Space Station and the establishment of a sustainable Global Space Enterprise. Starlab’s collaborative approach allows us to leverage the strengths and expertise of individual partners, maximize investments, and accelerate development through our global, commercial space ecosystem.

We are proud to share that we have been awarded $15 million, the highest amount awarded to a commercial space company to date, by the Texas Space Commission as part of their Space Exploration and Aeronautics Research Fund grant program. The grant to Starlab supports a Houston-based business and will help grow Starlab's ecosystem of suppliers and customers across the state, building a stronger civil and commercial aerospace industry. As we advance the development of Starlab, this grant will help establish our Systems Integration Lab, where engineers and astronauts can check hardware and software designed for the Starlab space station, ensuring efficient and effective operations. Our partner, The Ohio State University, recently invited students to explore innovative design solutions for space architecture and create concepts and creative solutions for habitable environments beyond Earth. The students created designs to accommodate four occupants for short and long-term missions while focusing on the lab's physical experience and the psychological well-being of the crew. We're excited to see the energy and ideas from the next generation of space engineers and architects who will ensure a successful and sustainable commercial space economy. Their habitat models will be displayed in the Starlab ground research facility at George Washington Carver Science Park.
Architecture students are traditionally taught to design from the ground up. This semester, students in Marta Nowak’s Architecture Beyond Earth: Low Earth Orbit studio explored design solutions at an altitude—approximately 1,200 miles from the Earth’s surface—that challenged this foundational training. We are proud to share that Starlab recently completed four key developmental milestones as part of our progress toward a single-launch space station that meets NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration, European Space Agency - ESA, JAXA: Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency and commercial market requirements. These milestones included critical reviews of the habitat’s structural design, integration plans, operational systems, and testing strategy. Our partners in Germany, Switzerland, Japan, Canada and across the U.S. are focused on industrializing LEO and creating a strong Earth-to-space infrastructure. We have a lot planned for 2025 and are excited to move forward on the development of a next generation space station that will ensure a permanent human presence and ongoing scientific research and development in space.
