About us
The STEM Ambassador Program (STEMAP) trains scientists to develop innovative public engagement activities with an emphasis on reaching audiences who cannot or do not engage with science in conventional venues. Ambassadors design engagement activities in collaboration with community groups that share common research or personal interests or experiences.

STEMAP is so excited to participate in the ARIS Impacts ORIC Program, where our team will learn from a national network of Broader Impacts (BI) professionals and contribute our experience as University of Utah BI practitioners. We look forward to gaining new tools to support the connectivity and societal impacts of UofU researchers over the next 2 years! https://lnkd.in/gbX7NCtn
🔊 ORIC News: https://lnkd.in/gHre_tCV ARIS announced seven new partner institutions selected for the fifth cohort of its signature Program to Enhance Organizational Research Impact Capacity (ORIC): Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Mote Marine Laboratory & Aquarium, Penn State University, Texas Tech University, University of Minnesota, University of Utah and Utah State University. “The mission of the ORIC program is to empower institutions to enhance their internal infrastructure for research impact support,” said Susan Renoe, ARIS Executive Director. “By boosting effective BI support at the institutional level, we amplify the benefits of research on society and its impact.” Having successfully graduated four cohorts of institutional partners, ARIS is expanding the ORIC program across two years and adding an in-person training component. The ORIC program will provide support for these new partners to create and implement their innovative action plans unique to their institution’s needs. ARIS will kick off the 2024 ORIC Cohort in July by hosting a three-day, in-person summer training session in Princeton, NJ, for all the new cohorts’ BI professionals and administrative partners. Over the next two years, this cohort will receive resources, mentoring and community-building, as well as an intensive training and professional development series on topics such as developing their institution’s broader impacts (BI) identity, evaluating BI activities, using the ARIS BI toolkit, conducting BI consultations and building effective BI partnerships. The BI professionals and their administrative partners are excited to get started. Please see the ORIC Cohort 2024 web page for links to all of the organizations: https://lnkd.in/gbrSfXkR.

We had a great time attending talks, presenting our poster, and connecting with leaders in science communication at Science Talk '24, hosted by the Association of Science Communicators. If you are a scientist, educator, or anyone interested in communicating scientific concepts to an audience, check out ASC and keep an eye out for next year's conference dates! https://lnkd.in/gp-uFKfr

Did you know that STEMAP doesn't just do courses for researchers? We also do consultations! If you're working on an NSF grant, we can help develop the Broader Impacts section to give you a competitive edge. Having a unique and creative outreach component can increase the likelihood of your grant proposal being accepted! You can contact our Associate Director, Andrew George, for more information and scheduling: stemap.org/contact/
