The future of STEM is being decided right now—will Black women be included? Right now, major shifts in government policy are reshaping how STEM programs receive funding. These changes risk deepening disparities in who gets access to resources. And if history tells us anything, it’s that Black women in STEM are often overlooked in these conversations. Take Dr. Lisa Jones, a leading Black chemist who fought tirelessly to secure federal research grants when funding was disproportionately going to larger, well-connected institutions. Her persistence not only secured millions for groundbreaking work in protein structure analysis but also paved the way for other Black women scientists to access similar opportunities. If policies don’t account for the systemic barriers we face, we risk losing the next generation of Black women innovators before they even get a chance to shine. So, how do we change that? ✨ We advocate. ✨ We show up in decision-making spaces. ✨ We amplify the voices of Black women who are breaking barriers. What STEM funding challenges have you faced in your career? How do you think policies should evolve to create more equity in research, tech, and innovation? Drop your thoughts below—let’s start a conversation that drives change. #STEMNoireV #BlackWomenInSTEM #WomenInTech #EquityInSTEM #PolicyMatters
