Before Sterling revolutionized the matting industry with Cross-Laminated Timber (CLT), we had to explore how to make it. And in 2016, we did just that! CLT originally started in Europe, where it was seen as a sustainable innovation with incredible potential. The Sterling brothers recognized this opportunity and were determined to bring the product to the U.S. What began as a handcrafted process—literally built by hand by a small group of our team—quickly evolved into something much bigger. However, not all wood mats are built the same.
