Job opportunities have been a key reason why U.S. workers move to another state. But what drives interstate migration for remote workers, who can do their jobs from anywhere? St. Louis Fed economists Hannah Rubinton and Alexander Bick, Senior Research Associate Cassandra Marks, and other researchers examine recent census data and find that housing is the most commonly cited reason why remote workers move: https://ow.ly/ZCXJ50Ufoy8 #WFH #Hybrid #Economy

It’s great to see how communities with a rich past are reimagining their economies and looking to the future. The Memphis region has a mix of traditional industries like logistics and steel, and nontraditional industries like artificial intelligence. Recently, I enjoyed speaking at an Economic Club of Memphis event. While in the region, I met the economic development team at Cotton to Steel in Mississippi County, Ark., one of the top steel-producing counties in the U.S., and toured U.S. Steel’s Big River Steel facility in Osceola, Ark. I also met with the leadership of FedEx and saw the impact Memphis has had on American culture during a Stax Museum of American Soul Music tour.
