The Heartland Regional Investment Fund, LLC, a subsidiary of STL Partnership, was recently awarded $30 million in New Markets Tax through the CDFI Fund. These funds will be used to provide financing to projects in distressed communities in the City of St. Charles and St. Louis County in Missouri and Bond, Clinton, Madison and St. Clair counties in Illinois.   To learn more, click here: https://lnkd.in/g2eH4pQb.

I had the honor of leading a mobile workshop at the Reclaiming Vacant Properties (RVP) Conference in St. Louis, last week. The workshop, Community Recovery and Rebuilding: West Florissant Avenue 10 Years After Ferguson, highlighted key redevelopment sites like Refuge and Restoration Marketplace and the Ferguson Community Empowerment Center, which was built on the site of the QuikTrip that was burned during the civil unrest after the death of Michael Brown Jr. in 2014. We explored how community vision and local partnerships have shaped the recovery of this key corridor over the past decade. We shared an meal provided by CATHY'S KITCHEN's R&R location. And we reflected on powerful art installations at the Empowerment Center -- a mural honoring Brown Jr. and other victims of police violence and a phone booth where visitors can listen to voice messages from those impacted by Brown’s death. This experienced demonstrated that revitalization is more than economic prosperity—it’s about helping communities heal and reimagine the future they want to build. A huge thank you to all the partners who made this workshop impactful, including Refuge & Restoration NPO, the Urban League of Metropolitan St. Louis, St. Louis Economic Development Partnership, and the Center for Community Progress.
