Screen TO Prevent Type 1 Diabetes
About us
At STOP T1D, we know that early detection leads to better outcomes. The STOP T1D program is led by the Barbara Davis Center for Diabetes at the University of Colorado, our mission is twofold: 1) To raise awareness among Health Care Providers (HCP) and communities about the critical importance of early detection and the severe consequences of delayed diagnosis of Type 1 Diabetes 2) To educate and empower HCPs and healthcare organizations with the knowledge, competence, and tools necessary for effective screening, timely diagnosis, and age-specific monitoring practices. Cardiovascular Risk (CVR) is complex for people managing #Type1Diabetes, owing in part to younger ages at times of #T1D diagnoses. Excerpted: "At diagnosis, a fundamental difference exists between T1D and #T2D in terms of the urgency to address CVR. In T2D, diabetes may have progressed for years before diagnosis, necessitating immediate CVR reduction efforts. In contrast, T1D is often diagnosed in younger patients with initially low CVR, raising questions about the optimal timing for interventions such as statin prescriptions." "CVR in patients with T1D remains challenging to define. However, it is essential to consider long-term outcomes, planning for 30 or 40 years into the future. This involves educating patients about the importance of prevention, even when reassuring numbers are seen in their youth." There's still a lot of education and fine-tuning of insulin delivery methods ahead. "Despite use of diabetes technologies, many individuals are unable to achieve glycemic targets and experience severe hypoglycemia, highlighting the need for novel treatments." This is a concerning statistic. We'd like to dramatically improve awareness in the U.S. about free #T1D screenings offered through the ASKhealth.org program and our free #CME for health care providers covering #type1diabetes screenings, diagnoses, and monitoring education that can be taken online in just a couple of hours through STOPT1Dprogram.org. Please help us spread the word about free T1D screenings and #HCP type 1 diabetes education!
👋 Did you know? 72% of adults living with type 1 diabetes didn't know that screening was available prior to being diagnosed. That's why this conversation is so important! On this episode of Community Table, we speak with a panel of experts and community members about type 1 diabetes screening and early detection at our Pit Stop For Health event in Atlanta. 🏁 Community Table is made possible by Lilly & Dexcom.
