In fall of 2024 the SGC collaborated with the Office of California Governor Gavin Newsom, California Energy Commission, Institute for Local Government, Latino Community Foundation, community-based organizations, and philanthropic partners for an in-person convening in the Imperial Valley. The convening was the unofficial launch of the 𝑰𝒎𝒑𝒆𝒓𝒊𝒂𝒍 𝑽𝒂𝒍𝒍𝒆𝒚 𝑪𝒊𝒗𝒊𝒄 𝑬𝒄𝒐𝒔𝒚𝒔𝒕𝒆𝒎 𝑰𝒏𝒊𝒕𝒊𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒗𝒆, a program designed to help Imperial Valley communities access federal, state, and public investments to meet their infrastructure needs and community development. ☀ Good morning, from the “Gateway to the West,” and the 2024 𝑮𝒐𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒏𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕 𝑨𝒍𝒍𝒊𝒂𝒏𝒄𝒆 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝑹𝒂𝒄𝒆 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑬𝒒𝒖𝒊𝒕𝒚 (𝑮𝑨𝑹𝑬) 𝑵𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒂𝒍 𝑪𝒐𝒏𝒇𝒆𝒓𝒆𝒏𝒄𝒆, in the City of St. Louis! SGC’s Deputy Director of #Equity and Government Transformation, Hoi-Fei Mok will be representing California at GARE’s 2024 convening, 𝐅𝐚𝐜𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐑𝐚𝐜𝐞: 𝐀 𝐍𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 from Nov. 20-22. GARE is a peer-to-peer learning and practice network dedicated to advancing #RacialEquity in government - so we all thrive where we live, learn, work and play!   This 2024 convening is being called the nation’s largest multiracial, intergenerational #RacialJustice conference of its kind and will provide spaces that serve as vital intersections where community organizers, activists, and movement makers converge to build power and strategies to advance racial justice. Throughout the conference Deputy Director Mok, will network and learn from partners from across the U.S. and have access to resources, information, and collaborative opportunities geared towards advancing racial equity for all. #FunFact – St. Louis was chosen for this year’s conference due to its history of serving as a critical juncture for both historical and contemporary racial justice movements. The city is known as the “Gateway to the West” because it was the starting point and traveling hub for the westward movement in the 1800s.
