It’s World Soil Day! Soil is crucial to our survival, providing over 95% of the food we eat. Unfortunately, due to climate change and human activity, our soils are eroding rapidly and contaminating the waters around us. At Straughan, our projects are designed to control erosion, restore habitats, and improve resiliency. Living shorelines are becoming an increasingly popular stabilization method for tidal waters, protecting against shoreline erosion and filtering harmful nutrients to preserve water quality. Head over to our website to learn how we used living shoreline design solutions for a project with Prince George’s County! https://lnkd.in/eW6SG5n4

Tomorrow is GIS Day! Celebrated annually on November 20th, this day is dedicated to celebrating GIS professionals, inspiring others, and teaching the next generation about the impact of GIS work. This year marks the 25th anniversary of GIS Day celebrations across the globe, and Straughan is getting in on the action! We will be participating in two different (free!) GIS Day events tomorrow: Our Director of GIS & Technology, Julie Spangler, will be attending New Light Technologies’ virtual DMV GIS Day 2024 event! Julie will be speaking on the panel “History of Innovation in the DMV” at 1pm, discussing how the field has evolved in the area with other community leaders. Click on the link to learn more and register to attend! https://lnkd.in/ekU7BJx2 In addition, Jay Sullivan and Christina G. will be at Howard Community College’s GIS Day celebration, located in Room 101 of their Science, Engineering, and Technology Building on campus. The two will be speaking to students about their experience as GIS professionals and explaining how their background in different subject matters led them to the industry. Register now and join Straughan for the GIS Day festivities!
