Flexible work meets 🤝 flexible benefits. Props to our partners DoorDash for publishing *exciting* early learnings from our Portable Benefits pilot in Pennsylvania which kicked off in July.
We're showing promising results with Dashers setting aside their additional 4% earnings towards essential benefits like health insurance, long term savings and PTO - personalized to their individual financial security needs and delivered via Stride's Benefits Accounts.
Together, we're looking forward to more states following in Pennsylvania's footsteps in 2025! Follow Max Rettig and dig into the report linked here if you're interested in the future of portable benefits 👀
Vice President, Head of Global Public Policy, Social Impact, and Sustainability at DoorDash
This week, I sat down with Dashers, policymakers, and academics in DC to talk about how we can make independent work stronger and more secure -- starting with what workers themselves want and need. A new report with ndp | analytics unveils insights from our portable benefits pilot in Pennsylvania:
💰Dashers are using the funds for paid time off (32%), emergency savings (21%), retirement (4%), and health, vision, and dental insurance (10%).
👍🏻Nearly 90% of surveyed Dashers reported that the program is beneficial overall, with this figure higher among the highest-earning Dashers.
💪Dashers participating in this pilot — even those who spend the most time on the platform — overwhelmingly want to remain independent contractors by a 6-to-1 margin with the option of portable benefits.
Excited for the pilot to continue in Pennsylvania and to pursue pro-worker policies around the country!

It may seem like health insurance is too expensive, but that’s not always the case — 40% of Stride users get a plan for $10 per month or less 🤑 . Thanks to tax credits that lower the cost of your coverage significantly, you can qualify for these tax credits based on factors like your income and family size. To ensure you qualify for the most savings possible, though, it’s crucial to calculate your income correctly.

Millions of people love the flexibility of gig work. But because the demand from riders, food-delivery customers, etc., can't be guaranteed, earnings can vary, and gig workers can feel financially insecure.
Enter this initiative, enabled by the State of Utah which allows Lyft to provide certain benefits without being forced to reclassify drivers as employees (which most don't want) and Stride Health. We hope it's a great program for drivers.
I'm super-proud of the team that worked it out, and thrilled to work with Stride's CEO Noah Lang. Thanks for your partnership!
