  • 💡 Did you know that...? Survivors of child sexual abuse and intimate partner violence are more likely to experience obesity and other health challenges in adulthood. Programs integrating survivor care with nutrition support tackle both immediate needs and long-term effects, improving well-being and advancing gender equality. #NourishEquality outlines opportunities to achieve both gender equality and nutrition outcomes, with mutually reinforcing benefits, including a focused brief on addressing violence against women and girls. As a parent of two young children, I’ve learned that you don’t truly understand something until you can explain it to a child. We live abroad, and I’ve been thinking about how to introduce the concept of Thanksgiving to my 4 and 6 year old. I’ve turned to National Geographic for Kids to learn about the First Thanksgiving and it is very insightful. In March 1621, the Wampanoag Native American tribe joined with English settlers in a formal agreement to protect each other from warring tribes. Later that year, around the English harvest celebration, the Wampanoag joined the English for a three day feast, where together they ate a meal of deer, corn, shellfish, and roasted meat. This moment of peace - which, Nat Geo points out, only lasted for a generation - spawned the modern Thanksgiving, and our time to give thanks in togetherness. While that 1621 feast is a bit protein heavy, the idea is there. A healthy meal, shared in a spirit of abundance - a pure moment in which to be grateful, surrounded by family, friends and food. This Thanksgiving, as my family and I sit down to dinner, living abroad and surrounded by our friendly tribe, I’m grateful for our nutritious meal, and wishing for a world where 2.8 billion more people can afford one as well. This Thanksgiving, as I hug my 4 and 6 year old, I’m thinking about the 13,400 children per day that don’t make it to age 5, for which malnutrition is the leading cause, and hoping for a happier future for every family. This Thanksgiving, I’m wishing for a stronger world; a nourished world. Together, we can create a future where nutritious food is not a privilege for some, but a right for all. From our community to yours, with gratitude. Stronger Foundations for Nutrition

Tackling childhood malnutrition doesn’t need to wait until a child is born. Prenatal multiple micronutrient supplements (MMS), are a proven, safe way of preventing malnutrition in pregnant women and their babies. MMS tablets contain 15 vitamins and minerals crucial for a healthy pregnancy and cost as little as $2.60. Already, countries like Rwanda are investing in this innovative solution, ensuring millions of women who need the supplement get access. When mothers and children are healthy, the world benefits. Investing in these kinds of nutrition innovations is a key way to help ensure they stay healthy. • 'By investing in nutrition amidst climate change, integrating efforts across sectors, and fostering political commitment, we can change millions of lives and create a healthier, more nourished future and more sustainable planet. This is not just a call to action—it is a rare chance to end malnutrition for all.' Thank you Brieuc PONT and Afshan Khan for keeping these important conversations going. #COP29 may be behind us now but let's keep building on the momentum in the upcoming events. We need everyone at the table pushing to transform how we tackle malnutrition in a changing climate. Looking ahead to 2025, the G20, Paris summit, Scaling Up Nutrition (SUN) Movement Global Gathering and Food Systems Summit+4 create fresh opportunities to mobilize both financial and political commitment for the nutrition gains we need.

#ClimateChange is fueling a global #nutrition crisis: undernutrition already affects 757 million people and if we don't act, 40 million more children could face stunted growth by 2050. But solutions exist. On Earth.Org, Afshan Khan and Brieuc PONT emphasize the need for immediate, integrated action to tackle malnutrition. From scaling up funding to embedding nutrition into climate and food policies, we can create a healthier, more nourished future and more sustainable planet. As the world focuses on the climate crisis, let’s ensure nutrition remains a top priority in 2025’s key milestones. Read more 🔗 https://lnkd.in/gUWKsekp

  • Violence against women and girls is a pervasive breach of human rights that deeply affects women’s ability to nourish themselves and their children. It impedes their health, well-being, and ability to live fulfilling lives. Violence during pregnancy can have severe consequences, including lower birthweight, disrupted breastfeeding, and child stunting. Addressing violence against women and girls in nutrition programming (and vice versa) provides a meaningful opportunity to achieve gender-transformative nutrition outcomes. • The nutrition community must focus their efforts on delivering priority interventions at scale for the world’s most vulnerable populations, and increase collaboration with climate community. Malnutrition is the underlying cause of half of all child deaths and climate change is worsening these outcomes. Those who suffer from the most severe forms of malnutrition often reside in the countries that contribute least to this crisis but bear the most devastating impacts, yet not enough has been done to rectify this inequity. As #COP29 concludes today, we must commit to implementing nutrition interventions as part of the climate agenda to address these critical issues. https://lnkd.in/d-54dU5s

  • In times of crisis, girls and women frequently and disproportionately suffer the consequences. This is no truer than in the context of the climate crisis. Rising temperatures and extreme weather events are making it even more difficult for millions of adolescent girls and women to access healthy and affordable food. But women - representing nearly half of the world's smallholder farmers - have an important role to play in building more resilient, sustainable and nutritious food systems. Today at #COP29, Gender Day puts these challenges and solutions in focus.
