Student Chapter of SPWLA at UT Austin

The SPWLA Student Chapter at UT Austin had an incredible opportunity to visit the Baker Hughes Technology and Education Centers! During the trip, we got a look at how logging is done, explored advanced tools, and even toured a rig. We also saw how Baker Hughes develops cutting-edge tools and technologies. We ended the day with an engaging and informative presentation from their geoscience team. A big thank you to Ali Eghbali for organizing and hosting this amazing event, and to Amer Hanif for his continuous support and help with coordination. Special thanks to Dr. Carlos Torres-Verdin and Zoya Heidari for their ongoing guidance, and to Dr. Matthew Balhoff and the Hildebrand Department of Petroleum and Geosystems Engineering for always encouraging these enriching and educational experiences. In 2018, Salazar joined Marathon Oil in Houston as their Lead Petrophysics Specialist, following roles at ConocoPhillips, Occidental, and PDVSA across the U.S., Canada, Australia, and Venezuela, working in various technology, exploration, and operations positions. He served as President and VP of Technology for the Society of Petrophysicists and Well Log Analysts (SPWLA), Executive Editor of the peer-reviewed SPE Reservoir Evaluation and Engineering journal, and Associate Editor of Petrophysics. Jesús is currently Associate Editor for the SPE Journal and was recognized with the SPE Peer Apart Award in 2020 and selected one of SPE’s Distinguished Lecturer for the 2022–2023 season. Dr. Salazar has published numerous papers in peer-reviewed journals and conferences, winning the Best Paper Award in Petrophysics in 2006. Nate was an SPWLA Distinguished Speaker in 2015 and is a member of SPE, SPWLA, and the American Physical Society.
