The Lance Corporal Leon Deraps I-70 Missouri River Bridge is open! Civil projects like this remind us of the incredible commitment, teamwork, and time required to bring a vision to life. Over the years of working together on the I-70 Rocheport Bridge, our team has grown into something much closer to family. Yesterday, that family came together to cut the ribbon on the I-70 Rocheport Bridge, a vital infrastructure project now officially known as the Lance Corporal Leon Deraps I-70 Missouri River Bridge. Lunda Construction Company is immensely proud of what we’ve accomplished in collaboration with the Missouri Department of Transportation and our incredible partners at Parsons Corporation. Together, we’ve not only replaced a critical piece of America’s transportation network but also built relationships that will last far beyond the project’s completion. This new bridge is designed to serve for 100 years, with enhanced safety features and improved mobility for over 12.5 million vehicles annually. Among them are 3.6 million trucks transporting goods across the lower 48 states — a testament to its nickname, the "lynchpin of America." The Missouri Department of Transportation and AGC of Missouri Bridge Co-Op meeting at The Lake of The Ozarks has been a tremendous two days of learning and networking. The panel on Owner/Contractor/Supplier communication for a successful project has been particularly informative and a great reminder of the value of picking up the telephone or getting together in person to talk through project issues. Great ideas are being shared and it is apparent that the future in Missouri is very bright! #bridgeconstruction #steelfabrication #networking

Attention Bridge Engineers and Designers: On November 14, 2024, AISC and NSBA will host a webinar that will preview the new AISC/NSBA standards that will simplify the design of hundreds of routine steel girder bridges. The webinar will be presented by Francesco R. of Russo Structural Services. These new standards cover bridges with 1, 2, 3, and 4-spans with span lengths ranging from 80 - 300 ft, and girder spacings of 8, 10, 12, and 14 ft, and are anticipated to be released later this year. The presentation will review the development of the standards and provide a walk-through showing how to use these standards to quickly design many short, medium, and long-span steel bridges. The presentation will also review the development of these standards, provide engineering and constructability background into their development, and discuss many details like cross-frames and field splices that are also provided. In early September, the last plate girders were erected for the Eastbound portion of the Lance Corporal Leon Deraps I-70 Missouri River (Rocheport) Bridge. The Westbound portion was opened in 2023. Stupp Bridge Company proudly fabricated 160 weathering steel plate girders and accompanying cross frames and lateral braces for these beautiful structures. The tallest girders are almost 13' tall and the bridge has a main span of 490'. Plate girders are a terrific choice for bridges over navigable water with spans from 200' to over 500' in length as they are lightweight to erect, can be optimized for multi-unit structures and are maintainable and repairable for a long service life.
