One of my favorite sessions from SubSummit 2024 was our very first one: a powerful conversation featuring Leo Livshetz of FabFitFun and Nik Sharma from Sharma Brands. Watching FabFitFun's continued growth and impact on the subscription industry has been nothing short of inspiring. In this session, Leo shared some killer insights on making customers feel like family. It’s clear that they’re not just delivering boxes — they’re delivering an experience that’s deeply valued by their subscribers. Leo’s knowledge drop reminded me why this industry is so exciting. Brands like FabFitFun are constantly evolving, rethinking what it means to create value, and leading the way in customer engagement. SubSummit was nice enough to send me this clip from SubSummit 2024 back in June. In case you missed every bathroom mirror at the event, we had just launched ASOM - Amer (A), Jimmy (S), Myself (O), and Bryan (M)! We were only a couple of episodes in and the success of the pod had not picked up much momentum at the time (I think we had 150 subscribers on YouTube compared to the 14,000+ we have now), but the team at SubSummit knew the future and wanted us on stage. The early support meant a lot to us. That was my 8th SubSummit and you already know I am going to be at my 9th next year in Dallas. Just saw that the Federal Trade Commission released its final "click-to-cancel" rule, and it's going into effect in under 6 months. This will require all subscription businesses to clearly present the terms of the agreement, make sure customers fully understand what they're signing up for, and offer a clear way to cancel – just as easily as it was to sign up. This could make a fascinating session at SubSummit next year featuring someone from the FTC! We actually started talking about this in 2019 and now it's finally being implemented 5 years later. What I love most is that the FTC incorporated feedback from thousands of public comments, showing that this isn’t just another hurdle for subscription business owners but rather this is what consumers want and it's a meaningful step toward building genuine trust and transparency with them. Subscriptions should ALWAYS be about delivering undeniable value, not trapping people in the service. As Robbie Kellman Baxter wisely said at SubSummit 2023, "NEVER HIDE THE CANCEL BUTTON!" I'll be watching closely how this unfolds and how it will shape the future of subscription commerce. What do you think? Is this a win for the industry or just another regulatory hurdle?
