[Special Report｜Climate Wefe Nexus] ❗ More than seven years after the adoption of the 2030 Agenda and its 17 SDGs, Mediterranean countries still face major sustainability challenges like water scarcity, food and energy insecurity and ecosystems degradation, all deeply interconnected. Addressing these issues requires moving away from silo approaches, as we can no longer afford to tackle each problem in isolation when they are so intricately linked. 👉 That is what our new special report is about: exploring the complex relationships between water, energy, food, and ecosystems in the context of environmental change in the Mediterranean with a nexus approach. Acting simultaneously on those 4 pillars is crucial. 👉 For example, cascading from the water pillar 💧, we can see how everything is related: water scarcity, due to droughts, reduce agriculture yields (food pillar 🥗) and lead to a strong decline in hydropower and thermoelectric power usable capacity (energy pillar ⚡), while the acidification of the sea lead to loss of habitat for aquatic species (ecosystem pillar 🌱). It's not too late to act: in the report, we address adaptation and mitigation solutions, both incremental and transformative, which will be key to access a sustainable future.  👉 Among them: the nature-based solutions, a systemic approach for policies, agroecological management practices… 🙏 It's a great collaborative effort with more than 60 experts.
