  • 🌍 Introducing Our Pilot Farm across and beyond Europe🌾🐑 We are thrilled to introduce one of our pilot farm projects in Italy, Morocco, Egypt and Tunisia, as part of the SUREPASTOR project. Those regions are known for their natural pastures and traditional farming practices, and are facing evolving challenges such as climate variability, limited resources, and generational shifts in shepherding. Therefore,in cooperation with SUREPASTOR and our pilot farms, efforts to integrate innovative farming techniques to enhance livestock productivity are made. About the Farms 📍 Location: Italy (Tuscany and Sardegna region),Morocco (Oued Naanaa and Lamarna region), Tunisia (Saouf and Bou Salem region) and Egypt (Fayoum and Al bahr Al Ahmar region ) 👩🌾 Key Person: Pastoral Farmers 🐄 Livestock: a total of 5061 animals The Focus of the Project Our project explores Precision Livestock Farming (PLF) principles, leveraging tools like ear tags to monitor and optimize: Animal mobility across spontaneous rangelands. Pasture intake to sustainably utilize local feed resources. Interannual variability in grazing patterns. Why This Matters The mentioned regions of traditional farming face increasing pressure due to: Climate changes and drought events. Declining availability of shepherds. Increased dependency on external feed resources. By applying PLF technologies, SUREPASTOR aims to offer solutions that improve efficiency, support sustainable livestock management, and ensure future resilience for farmers in the region. • 💡 How can #tradition and #technology coexist? 🐏 Despite its many years of economic rewards and practical applications, #agropastoralism is frequently misunderstood as only a way of life. 👉 It's much more than that, though. Agro Pastoralists are essential to combating climate change, protecting the Mediterranean's natural resources, and forming local identities. SUREPASTOR's aim is to support traditions, not to replace them. The project modifies technical solutions in order to maintain traditions and make them safer, healthier, and more appealing to women and younger generations. 🔍 How? Through the use of native breeds, #agroforestry methods, and the promotion of #sustainable grazing. Are you curious? Follow us on social media to stay informed! • 🐏 Time to introduce ourself! SUREPASTOR is an initiative supported by the European Union PRIMA Program and coordinated by Università degli Studi di Firenze, that aims at developing sustainable and resilient management strategies for agropastoralism. 👉 The main goal is to enhance the resilience of small traditional farms in the Mediterranean Area - where rangelands are facing vegetation and soil degradation, mainly caused by climate change. 🐐 This new approach will improve the economic, social and environmental conditions of agro-pastoral farming. 🔍 Want to know more?
