Last week we reached a huge milestone in our business - we received the loan funds from a private lender that will lead to this week's scheduled purchase completion. This is the first loan of this scale into SureStay Group and is a huge indicator that it's not just us who has faith in and is passionate about our mission to get people out of homelessness, into homes. We offer one way of people investing for social impact. This particular investor will receive monthly interest payments that exceed my total monthly income and we can't wait to service the loan in a fantastic exchange of money, impact, value and partnership. Do you know how long the wait list is for a council house in UK? A 2-bed is 15 YEARS A 3-bed is 20-24 years A 4-bed is 40 years. I remember decades ago, some people in my family would simply kick up a fuss with the council if they didn't get the housing prioritisation they wanted and, if they shouted loud enough, they got bumped up the list. It doesn't work like that any more; the system is overburdened and if you don't like it, you're out. What do we actually do? We want to raise the quality of housing available to families coming out of temporary accommodation. We buy blocks of flats, like the one here, improve the quality of the homes inside, and rent them out on 2-year tenancies to families on benefits. Our homes will likely be better than their other options, usually from 'slum landlord' types who don't care about the quality of property. We are proud to offer homes, not houses, and we have a big goal to create 50 of them within our first two years.
