The kick-off meeting of “Support Utilisation of Sustainable and TAilored INnovative methods for HTA (SUSTAIN HTA)” project was held at the magnificent premises of the Fundatie van Renswoude in Utrecht (The Netherlands). Led by Utrecht University, the project consortium includes leading universities, HTA bodies, an NGO, and SMEs from across Europe. Together, we aim to contribute to the use of innovative health technology assessment (HTA) methodologies across Europe and support the methodological activities as part of the Regulation (EU) 2021/2282 on health technology assessment (HTAR). These activities will be supported by a larger network of HTA bodies and will involve other experts and a wide group of stakeholders through our Forums. Follow our pages on LinkedIn and X for further project updates to be coming soon! #SUSTAIN_HTA #HorizonEurope #HealthTechnologyAssessment #HTA
SUSTAIN-HTA
Public Health
EU-funded project aiming to upskill HTA body workforce & harmonise HTA expertise in the EU.
About us
SUSTAIN-HTA aims to upskill the pan-European HTA body workforce and harmonise HTA expertise via a robust education and training framework that ensures continuous uptake of novel, need-based HTA methodologies. Aligned with the methodological developments as part of the new EU HTA regulation, the project will set up a mechanism for dialogues and interaction between HTA bodies and academia to regularly assess HTA bodies’ needs in parallel with a methods observatory that ensures up-to-date knowledge of the latest HTA methods. Via the collaboration of 5 universities, 7 HTA bodies, 2 SMEs and one non-profit organization, SUSTAIN-HTA brings together extensive experience in (coordinating) previous European-funded HTA-related projects including HTx, EHDEN, COMED and GetReEal. With this, SUSTAIN-HTA has the background for establishing sustainable business models that ensure the continuity of project outcomes and activities in years beyond the project.

✨ Meet Our Lead Experts: Dr Saskia Knies As part of our initiative to introduce the experts leading SUSTAIN-HTA, we’re delighted to introduce Dr Saskia Knies, a lead expert & coordinating advisor at Zorginstituut Nederland (ZIN) and a visiting fellow at Erasmus University Rotterdam. Saskia is a renowned specialist in Health Technology Assessment (HTA) and Pharmacoeconomics, bringing a wealth of experience to the project. She has previously served as a senior advisor for the H2020 HTx Project - Next Generation Health Technology Assessment project and coordinated the Dutch HTA Research Network (Academische werkplaats Verzekerde Zorg), which integrates efforts from ZIN, Erasmus University Rotterdam, and Utrecht University. 🔍 On SUSTAIN-HTA, Dr Knies shared: ‘Half of the SUSTAIN-HTA consortium consists of HTA organisations from different parts of Europe. The HTA organisations are not just part of the consortium, but several of them have an important role within the project as either task or work package leads or as contributing partners to most of the tasks. They also have an important role to play in identifying their methodological needs and indicating whether methods developed fulfil these needs. Zorginstituut Nederland has, as an HTA organization, extensive experience in collaboration with academic partners in its research networks and with other HTA organisations. In addition, through its involvement in earlier projects such as H2020-HTx and IMI-GetReal and as coordinator of EUnetHTA - European Network for Health Technology Assessment/ EUnetHTA JA3 and EUnetHTA 21 has the knowledge and experience within European collaborations.’ 👉 Learn more about our experts and their roles in shaping sustainable HTA practices: https://lnkd.in/dmtx6UR5 #SUSTAIN_HTA #HorizonEurope #HealthTechnologyAssessment #HTA #Innovation

Meet Our Consortium Leader: Prof Wim Goettsch 🎓✨ As part of our initiative to introduce the experts leading SUSTAIN-HTA, we are thrilled to introduce Prof Wim Goettsch, our consortium leader and lead expert at Utrecht University. With a background in Health Technology Assessment (HTA), Wim is a Special Advisor at Zorginstituut Nederland and a Professor for HTA of Pharmaceuticals at Utrecht University. Wim has led several major European projects, including the HTx Project - Next Generation Health Technology Assessment and EUnetHTA - European Network for Health Technology Assessment JA3, contributing significantly to HTA development and implementation of new methods in policy and practice. A quote from Wim on the vision of SUSTAIN-HTA: “SUSTAIN-HTA gathers a consortium of HTA organisations and academic groups to triangulate the scientific and methodological needs of HTA organisations, the current state of the art of HTA methods in use and the new HTA methods being developed by various stakeholders. SUSTAIN-HTA will not develop new HTA methods but will support the implementation of new methods in HTA in Europe. In brief, we must begin continuously recording the needs for new methods within HTA organisations. At the same time, we will need an ongoing record of what new HTA methods are being developed. By structurally linking these needs and developed methods, we can support the timely implementation of state-of-the-art HTA methods in HTA practice. Utrecht University, through its involvement in earlier projects such as H2020-HTx, IMI-GetReal and EUnetHTA JA3 and through our structural link to the Zorginstituut Nederland in the Dutch Academic Research Network HTA, has the knowledge, experience and resources to coordinate this effort." 👉 Stay tuned for more introductions and find out more about our experts here: https://lnkd.in/dmtx6UR5 #SUSTAIN_HTA #HorizonEurope #HealthTechnologyAssessment #HTA #Innovation
