New Sustainability Hero: Congratulations Kira Sikorski, Franklin Township Public Schools Coordinator of School-Based Green Teams ▶Read more: https://bit.ly/SJHero_Dec Kira Sikorski has been an educator at the Franklin Park Elementary School for 22 years and serves as the Franklin Township Public Schools coordinator of the school-based green teams. In this role, she has led nine of the ten schools in the district to achieve Sustainable Jersey for Schools certification with three of the schools at the silver-level and six of the schools achieving a Digital School Star as part of their certification. Five district schools were awarded grants by Sustainable Jersey for Schools in 2023/2024, totaling $18,000. #SJhero

Sustainable Jersey has significant capacity for research, outreach, and program implementation in many areas with particular strengths in energy, civic engagement, land use, resiliency, sustainability indicators, health, and grant making.

New Sustainability Hero: Congratulations Joann Held, Chair of the Hopewell Valley Green Team. ▶Read more: https://bit.ly/SJHero_Nov For almost 50 years, Joann Held has worked to protect and enhance the environment through education, advocacy and regulation. Known as the ‘queen of green,’ Joann is a sustainability hero who has made a significant impact in Mercer County and across New Jersey. Joann worked at the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) for 26 years, specializing in air quality issues. She is the chair of the Hopewell Valley Green Team, which includes the communities of Hopewell Borough, Hopewell Township and Pennington Borough. A 45 year resident of Pennington Borough, Joann is a member of the Pennington Borough Environmental Commission and the chair of the Pennington Farmers Market.

The New Jersey Board of Public Utilities presented an award of $200,000 to the Borough of Madison yesterday. The grant is part of the NJBPU’s Community Energy Plan Implementation (CEPI) Grant Program to improve energy efficiency and reduce the carbon footprint of the Hartley Dodge Memorial and the 200-year-old Borough Hall.
