This past weekend, we held our December DJR session on Philanthropy and Government at Miles of Freedom, a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering individuals, families, and communities impacted by incarceration. During the session, the Residents engaged in discussions with Richard Miles (Founder & CEO, Miles of Freedom), Tahvia Merrill, LMSW-IPR (Director of Case Management and Reentry, Miles of Freedom), DISD Trustee Benjamin Mackey, State Representative Rhetta Bowers, Scott Orr, CFA (Vice President, Head of Southern Regional Public Affairs, Fidelity Investments), and DJR Alum Adriana Portillo, MSW (Language Access Coordinator, City of Dallas). At the session, Residents explored the relationship between government and nonprofits in achieving philanthropic initiatives and how the roles of each have evolved over the years. SVP Dallas is currently accepting applications for the 2024-2025 DJR Capstone Projects. Organizations interested in being considered should complete the application, linked below, by December 23rd. https://lnkd.in/gr8mQsrh Each organization selected will be assigned a team of current Residents to work on a capacity-building project, which will start in February and conclude in May.
