👋 Meet Symbiosis. 🌳We’re an advanced market commitment by Google, Meta, Microsoft, and Salesforce to purchase up to 20M tons of high-quality nature-based carbon removals projects ☀ 📈 Inspired by Frontier Climate, the LEAF Coalition, and other AMCs, we intend to catalyze the supply of the next generation of high-quality restoration projects in the voluntary carbon market Learn more and join us here: https://lnkd.in/gaAvBj5K #naturerestoration #carboncredits #carbonmarkets #carbonfinance #climatefinance #climate
About us
The Symbiosis Coalition aims to facilitate an advance market commitment (AMC) of up to 20 million tons of nature-based carbon removal credits. While only a fraction of the world's total carbon removal goals, this is the first and largest AMC ever for nature-based carbon removal, equivalent in volume to the 2030 carbon removal goals of the state of California.

🗽 After a busy #ClimateWeekNYC, we're energized by the discussions, insights, and progress unfolding! Thanks to the developers, investors, buyers, and others who came out to our events and shared your thoughts with us. Here are some takeaways Symbiosis staff heard: 𝟭. 𝗗𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱𝘆 – Limited supply is a challenge, but with the right demand signals and hints of lower cost capital starting to become more available, developers are increasingly mobilizing around the world. 𝟮. 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝘀𝗲𝗲𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗲𝘀 – As the carbon market scales up, it’s important to balance systems-level impact with a focus on individual projects. Starting deal by deal can help build the pattern recognition and models needed for impact at scale. Sharing case studies and lessons learned along the way will be key. 𝟯. 𝗥𝗼𝗼𝗺 𝘁𝗼 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗺𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝗱𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘀, 𝗶𝗻𝘃𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘀, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗯𝘂𝘆𝗲𝗿𝘀 – Market stakeholders are actively working through the tricky triangulation of allocating risk among developers, investors, and offtakers. Open and early dialogue among all three groups of stakeholders can contribute to a better shared understanding of the constraints of each group. 𝟰. 𝗤𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗶𝘀 𝗸𝗲𝘆 𝘁𝗼 𝗺𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗲𝘁 𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘄𝘁𝗵 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁 – Quality was often cited as a main necessary ingredient for the market to grow. We heard increased recognition that equitable engagement and outcomes for indigenous peoples and local communities are central to quality. We also heard a tension between continuously improving the quality bar based on lessons learned while giving investors, buyers, and developers the certainty to invest today. 𝟱. 𝗢𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗳𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗻𝗮𝗿𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 – The nature-based carbon removal market has been hampered by a perceived lack of high-quality restoration projects. There is an opportunity to highlight more success stories and more clearly share examples of what good looks like. What key themes or insights have you been hearing? Anything we missed? #NYClimateWeek2024 #NatureRestoration #CarbonCredits #CarbonMarkets #CarbonRemoval

Check out this article from GreenBiz Group yesterday highlighting Symbiosis Coalition and other Advance Market Commitments (AMCs) for climate action! Symbiosis complements Frontier Climate and the LEAF Coalition by catalyzing the supply of the next generation of high-quality restoration projects in the voluntary carbon market. AMCs like Symbiosis aim to send strong demand signals and translate commitments into long-term offtake agreements to help give project developers and investors the confidence needed to make more of these projects happen. For buyers, AMCs provide advantages such as: 📑 Streamlining due diligence and contracting 🤓 Facilitating sharing lessons learned, research, and knowledge among members 🧗♂️ Improving access to high-integrity carbon credit supply 📈 Amplifying the impacts of any individual buyer's commitments Interested in learning more about how to get involved with Symbiosis? How can carbon credit buyers support ecological restoration? The Symbiosis Coalition, formed by climate leaders like Google, Meta, Microsoft, and Salesforce, is setting a powerful example. By making a 20M tonne offtake commitment, they're unlocking high-quality ecological restoration and carbon projects, ensuring rigorous standards and meaningful impact. Here, we explore why signals like the Symbiosis Coalition matter in the #VoluntaryCarbonMarket and how they can catalyze broader action. Discover how these initiatives can drive finance for projects that benefit both nature and climate, paving the way for a sustainable future: https://lnkd.in/gtet9DjM ✍ Penned by Carbon Direct's Director of Landscape Decarbonization, Dr. Sarah Federman #EcologicalRestoration #CarbonCredits #Sustainability #SymbiosisCoalition #Meta #Google #Microsoft #Salesforce

📜 We'll provide our members with the opportunity to purchase nature-based carbon removals credits that meet our quality bar through a joint RFP in addition to their own procurement efforts. 🌳 The first RFP will focus on afforestation, reforestation, and revegetation projects (inclusive of agroforestry) and will launch later this year! 🤓 Working with independent technical experts, we developed 8 specific quality criteria covering everything from dynamic baselining to biodiversity to community engagement and more! Check out our ARR-specific quality criteria here: https://lnkd.in/gSTAmmNi #naturerestoration #carboncredits #carbonmarkets #carbonfinance #climatefinance #climate
