Empathy is at the heart of everything we do. Not because it’s good for business, or because it makes LPs or our founders happy, but because it’s who we are. While there are lessons and best practices the Symphonic team has picked up throughout our professional experiences, treating people with kindness, being transparent, and empathetic our central to who we are and what we believe makes our business better. Our founder Sydney Paige Thomas recently spoke with Acumen America about Symphonic’s approach to supporting founders and why it is intentionally different from other firms. Read her conversation with Amon Anderson: https://lnkd.in/gBcsBWGP. #venturecapitalist #founders #empathy #withkindness

    • Image background is cream colors. The Acumen America logo is in the top left corner. The image reads a quote from Sydney Thomas,
"The cool thing about investing in early-stage companies is that we get clear about the risks we're willing to take and the risks we're no willing to take. There's so many different ways you can do pre-seed. We like working deeply with people. We like being able to give them a certain amount of emotional energy, which is that patience, that support-and that requires us to have a smaller portfolio and be thoughtful about who we take a risk on."
At the bottom in a coral colored bubble it reads, "Leading with Empathy in Supporting Pre-Seed Startups".

AI isn’t just for tech bros looking to cut corners. It can be used for good. Our portfolio company Starlight is proof. Roughly 30% of people in the U.S. participate in a public assistance program. But that number could be much higher. Starlight is making sure of it with the help of AI. They identify individuals facing financial challenges and pre-qualify them for benefits based on their financial data. This allows members to access government benefits including the cost of food, healthcare, childcare, and utilities. Using technology to support the 99% is what we’re all about. We’re proud to work with a company like Starlight that’s using emerging tech to support communities that need it most. #AI #inclusivity #makingadifference #portfoliocompany

    • Image background is cream. There are white and lilac abstract shapes from the top left corner to the middle on the right with the Starlight logo image over the lilac color on the right side. Starlight is written across the top left corner. The image reads, "Starlight has created an amazing opportunity for people to take advantage of benefits they qualify for, but may not know about. The members I serve need all of the assistance they can get. Putting a few hundred, or more, dollars back in their pockets makes a huge difference. - Shawn Wolbert, CEO, GHS Federal Credit Union". At the bottom of the image in a dark purple banner it reads, "A Financial Safety Net, Powered By AI - Starlight provides proactive, personalized guidance to help households navigate government benefits seamlessly."

We’re not just following the trends, we’re trying to set them. 📈 Symphonic seeks to partner with founders in health tech because not only is digital health investing here to stay, but emerging startups are making it possible for underrepresented communities to get the care and support they need, which aligns with our investment thesis. Recently, our founder Sydney Paige Thomas was part of a virtual event with Carta. Throughout the event, they discussed stats and other growth and funding insights of the healthcare and life science industries. Our Health Equity Conference was a powerful example of the connections that are possible when we prioritize a shared ethos over resume talking points. 🏥 Earlier this month, we hosted a two-day conference that convened founders and investors committed to addressing health disparities to build a more inclusive economy in the U.S. and beyond. Our speakers included executives in the health technology space, physicians, and even a member of Congress. Participants attended sessions focused on social determinants of health, navigating Medicaid, and the growing field of startups prioritizing healthcare solutions for marginalized communities. 🎵 If you missed this year's conference, sign up at the link in our comments to get on our email list so you don’t miss the next event! #conference #founders #investors #inclusiveeconomy

Symphonic Capital is a founder first VC firm. We don’t agree to invest in a company based on a 30 minute exploratory call. Instead, pitching us your business starts with our Diligence Request form where we gather information about you, your business, and the problem you’re trying to solve. Pitching this way ensures each founder we invest in is asked the same questions and has the opportunity to share the same information with us. This form also gives our team the appropriate amount of time to familiarize ourselves with your start up and the market before moving forward. Founders, ready to pitch us? Fill out our form here: https://lnkd.in/dAEC2QTN We can’t wait to read about what you’re creating! #venturecapital #startupfounders #founders #diligence

"We Don't Invest
Based on "Vibes"
An Equitable Pitch Process
All founders who pitch us start off on a level playing field with our Diligence Request form. It's just one way we're doing VC differently."

Symphonic Capital is heading to New Jersey! Next week, we’re hosting a two-day health equity conference for founders and investors committed to addressing health disparities and building a more inclusive economy. This event wouldn’t be possible without organizations like Goodwin. A global law firm with offices in North America, Europe, and Asia, Goodwin’s mission is to drive meaningful change and ensure a healthier future for all. The practice advises providers, digital health companies, women’s health and wellness companies, and investors on transactions, regulations, government investigations, and litigation. They believe it’s possible to address the root causes of economic inequality and build a more inclusive healthcare economy by providing a dedicated forum for discussion and offering investment and operational support. Our goal is always to work with founders and organizations with missions and core values similar to ours, so we’re excited to work with Goodwin to bring this event to life — special shoutout to Simone Otenaike who has been a critical part of making this event a reality! We can't wait to see all 100+ attendees at our conference next week! #newjerseyevents #economicinequality #inclusivehealthcare #venturecapitalistlife

Next month, we’re hosting a two-day health equity conference for founders and investors committed to addressing health disparities and building a more inclusive economy. We’re so excited for this meeting of the minds and thrilled to have sponsors like the New Jersey Economic Development Authority (NJEDA). NJEDA collaborates with a diverse range of stakeholders to implement programs and initiatives that improve quality of life, enhance economic vitality, and strengthen New Jersey’s long-term economic competitiveness. They’ve spent the last 50 years striving to make New Jersey a national model for sustainable and equitable economic growth by investing in communities, fostering innovation, and supporting industries with high quality-job creation across the state. Their work serves as a reminder that innovation can happen anywhere, not just in major cities or tech hubs. With their support, we’re excited to host this event outside of Silicon Valley, proximate to real people looking to solve real problems. Interested in attending? Check out the link in the comments. #venturecapitalist #healthconference #inclusiveeconomy
