Water heater is a commodity product. And often it is a product that is hidden away. But this ad for a water heater caught my attention simply because it said something that was new to me. A water heater that can soften hard water. The brand has made a connection between hair fall and hard water. I did not know this as well. If this is true then the brand does seem to have a winner on its hands. The brand has taken a bold stand by advertising it in English daily newspapers to target the upper income households. I suppose it is an expensive product. This new product is bound to give the brand Symphony, a leader in the air cooler category, an entry into the water heater category dominated by brands like Bajaj and Venus. Now they have to make sure that their Go To Market strategy is in place to exploit this innovation. Will they succeed? And will the hard water / soft water argument work better in some markets and not in all markets? Let us watch and see what happens.
