New Industrial Electrification Report! Last week, Synapse, in collaboration with the World Wildlife Fund and the Renewable Thermal Collaborative, published the Utility Engagement Playbook for Industrial Customers: Addressing Power Sector Barriers to Electrification. This Playbook provides a comprehensive roadmap for industrial companies to navigate the challenges of electrification by engaging with utilities and policymakers. Electrifying industrial operations is crucial for decarbonizing the U.S., but many utilities lack clear pathways to help industrial customers make this transition. Exciting news!! The City of Chelsea, MA has officially broken ground on the first phase of its virtual microgrid project. This innovative microgrid model, developed by Climable, brings together key partners including GreenRoots, Inc., Green Justice Coalition, Synapse Energy Economics, the City of Chelsea, Clean Water Action, the Chinese Progressive Association, and Resilient Urban Neighborhoods. The project began with the installation of 1,000 kW of solar energy at the Municipal Public Works Yard, marking the first step toward energy savings and generating income. As the solar energy feeds into the grid, it will eventually help lower energy bills for low-income residents through bill credits. Learn more here: https://lnkd.in/g5rfjhwD

💡 Just released: A game-changing report on challenges of Integrated Resource Plans (IRPs) and practical guidance of developing more effective utility resource plans. Synapse Energy Economics and Lawrence Berkeley National Lab have just released a new guide for electric utilities, states, and stakeholders that addresses current difficulties for IRPs. Most states require electric utilities to submit an IRP every 1 to 5 years, with some utilities doing so voluntarily. IRPs focus on electricity generation and demand management, aiming to identify the most cost-effective resource mix while considering risks and uncertainties. The guide offers best planning practices for electricity systems to develop technically clearer, more effective, and state-of-the-art electric utility resource plans.
