미국에서 산지 벌써 30년이다. 한국서 지낸 시간보다 미국서 살아 온 기간이 더 길지만 나는 항상 한국인이다. 여러 나라를 방문하고 살면서, 너무나 자연스럽게 다른 나라의 문화와 한국의 문화를 비교해 보게 되고 한국만이 가진 독특한 강점에 놀라지만 한편으로는 부유함과 물질, 유명세가 성공의 기준이 되고 인간적인 가치관들에 대한 대화는 적어지는 현실이 너무나 안타깝다. Perry Knoppert가 리드하는 The Octopus Movement를 유연히 접하고 이 커뮤니티의 다양한 사람들과 소통하면서 많이 배우고 깨닫게 되는 즐거움을 한국인 친구들도 같이 경험 했으면 한다. 한국은 널리 인간을 이롭게 한다는 단군 할아버지의 철학을 바탕으로 만들어진 나라다. 세상의 어느 나라가 이렇게 범인류적인 철학을 바탕으로 만들어 졌을까. 이 철학이야말로 앞으로 한국인이 세계인의 친구로서, 동료로서, 리더로서 역할을 해나가는데 바탕이 되어야하지 않을까? 나는 The Octopus Movement의 멤버로서 이러한 철학을 세계의 친구들에게 전하고 싶다. 한국은 경제적 부를 이루고 세계의 젊은이가 열광하는 문화 컨텐츠의 리더이자 여러 분야의 롤모델이지만 소소한 행복에 대한 가치를 잘 모르는 나라다. 삶과 내가 속한 공동체에 대한 고마움 같은 작은 행복을 바탕으로 더 큰 가치와 비젼을 가꾸어 나가는 행복한 나라로 거듭나도록 나도 일조하고 싶다. 내가 지금 열중하고 있는 테일트리도 The Octopus Movement와 같은 목표를 가지고 있다. 단지 우리는 어린이로부터 시작하는 중이다. It's hard to believe it's already been 30 years since I left the United States. Despite having lived here longer than in Korea, my Korean identity remains deeply rooted within me. Traveling and residing in various countries, I find myself naturally comparing their cultures to that of Korea, and I'm continually amazed by the unique strengths Korea possesses. However, I've noticed that success is frequently gauged by wealth, material possessions, and fame rather than by humanistic values. It's disheartening to witness fewer individuals prioritizing these essential aspects of humanity. I hope my Korean friends can also discover the joy of learning and experiencing profound insights through flexible engagement with The Octopus Movement, spearheaded by Perry Knoppert, and by engaging with diverse individuals within this community.
