Big news today. Juan Soto signed with the Mets and Cat Ward with the Taproot Foundation. Like Soto, Cat is a generational talent and I am thrilled to have her leading the team as we near our 25th anniversary.

I am excited to be partnering with Christopher Schneider and The Rustandy Center for Social Sector Innovation to bring this training on Strategic Fundraising through their Virtual Onboard. At Taproot Foundation, we often talk about how we can support nonprofits in having the resources and expertise that they need to fulfill their missions and thrive. Through this training, I hope that we can tap into our collective wisdom on how to do the hard work of driving resources to the change we want to see. We will consider fundraising myths and trends, and review, reflect, and build strength-based fundraising strategies that we feel good about implementing in the upcoming year. Honored for this opportunity to lean into my The University of Chicago Booth School of Business community and looking forward to it. #strategicfundraising, #nonprofit
With year-end giving season approaching, board directors, nonprofit professionals, and anyone else interested in advancing social impact is invited to join the The Rustandy Center for Social Sector Innovation on Dec. 11 for a virtual workshop on strategic fundraising planning. Led by Debra Michaels, director of effective philanthropy at Taproot Foundation, this interactive session will debunk common fundraising myths, discuss real-world examples, and share practical frameworks to maximize impact in the year ahead. Today marks my first day as CEO of the incomparable Taproot Foundation. Returning to Taproot after my time here from 2012–2018 feels like a true homecoming. Taproot has always dreamed big and swung for the fences—pioneering the pro bono movement and catalyzing a $15B marketplace. I’m honored to build on that legacy and lead the organization into a new era of innovation, mobilization, and impact. Any nonprofit leader will tell you: the sector is at an inflection point. Nonprofits face mounting societal pressures combined with significant changes in the way work gets done. It’s daunting, to be sure--but it’s also an opportunity. Taproot has the resources, the expertise, and the indomitable spirit to meet this moment and build a stronger, more resilient social sector. I can’t wait to work alongside Taproot’s team and partners to bring this vision to life. As I dive into the work, I do so with humility and a clear-eyed focus on the opportunities and challenges ahead. I’m immensely grateful to Taproot’s Board of Directors for your trust in me, and all the Roots—past and present—for the passion that’s fueled this movement. I'm thankful also to Lindsay Gruber for setting us up for success, and Aaron Hurst for the abundant vision and founding this amazing organization. And finally, I'm thankful to you, my network and community--for all the side-texts and DMs; the words of encouragement; and the reminders to stay curious, brave, and true to myself as I step into this new and exciting role and all it brings. Here’s to a bold next chapter. Let's go!
