Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD)
Financial Services
Enabling better nature-related risk management, corporate reporting and capital allocation.
About us
The Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD) has developed a set of disclosure recommendations and guidance that encourage and enable business and finance to assess, report and act on their nature-related dependencies, impacts, risks and opportunities. The recommendations and guidance will enable businesses and finance to integrate nature into decision making. Our aim is to support a shift in global financial flows away from nature-negative outcomes and toward nature-positive outcomes, aligned with the Global Biodiversity Framework. Launched in 2021, TNFD released the first beta versions its framework for consultation and feedback between March 2022 and March 2024. Over the two-year design and development phase leading to the publication of the TNFD recommendations in September 2023, it received feedback from over 60 countries. Over 200 pilot tests of a prototype framework were conducted by business and financial institutions around the world across sectors, geographies and biomes. TNFD published its final recommendation in September 2023.

📚 Introducing the case study library We’re excited to introduce a new feature on the TNFD Knowledge Hub – the case study library. 🔗 https://ow.ly/COe950Ug4av This growing collection includes real-world case studies of how dependencies, impacts, risks and opportunities materialise, as well as use cases on how corporates and financial institutions are applying and interpreting the TNFD recommendations and guidance in their own operations. The library includes two distinct types of examples: ◼️Case studies: Practical examples of how organisations are assessing, managing and disclosing their nature-related dependencies, impacts, risks and opportunities. Each case study highlights the importance of understanding and acting on nature-related impacts. ◼️LEAP use cases: Detailed technical examples of how organisations have implemented the LEAP approach to measure and report on their nature-related impacts and risks. These use cases provide insights for organisations beginning their own LEAP journey and applying the TNFD recommendations and guidance more broadly. 📤 Submit your case study to the library: 🔗 https://ow.ly/2jaz50UfUqE Organisations are invited to enrich this library by submitting their own case studies or LEAP use cases. Share your experiences and help others understand how to get started with nature-related reporting. #TNFD #NaturePositive #Sustainability #KnowledgeHub #CorporateReporting

🌱 Five key aspects of our draft guidance on nature transition plans Our recently-published discussion paper on nature transition plans builds on existing work by the Transition Plan Taskforce (TPT) and Glasgow Financial Alliance for Net Zero (GFANZ) and presents draft guidance for corporates and financial institutions to develop robust, actionable nature transition plans. Tomorrow (26 November), we host two special webinars exploring the draft guidance, it's key aspects, and next steps: ⏱Session 1 – 08:00 UTC 🔗Register - https://lnkd.in/gGJC5-jv ⏱ Session 2 – 16:00 UTC 🔗 Register - https://lnkd.in/gn4D_CKw What are the key aspects of the draft guidance ❓ 🌍 The TNFD recommendations help deliver on GBF Target 15 Transition planning is essential for aligning strategy, risk management and asset allocation with the shifts implied by the GBF in an orderly, strategic fashion. Whilst this is part of the TNFD recommended disclosure Strategy B, it is not a requirement for TNFD Adopters. 📈 Metrics Our draft guidance on nature transition planning addresses all nature-related issues, excluding climate change, and uses the same metrics as the TNFD recommendations, LEAP approach and sector guidance. 🤝 Built on existing work We've built our nature transition guidance around GFANZ's five themes for net zero plans, with nature-specific adaptations, particularly to Foundations, Metrics & Targets and a new Engagement component focusing on landscapes, river basins and seascapes. 🏛 Three principles The TPT's principles of Ambition, Action and Accountability guide nature transition plans. These plans should reflect urgency, take a holistic and strategic approach and have clear action roadmaps with accountability mechanisms. ✂ Adapting TPT’s climate disclosures Our draft guidance for disclosing nature transition plans adapts the TPT’s climate disclosures, replacing three climate-specific elements with four nature-specific ones. 💬Open for consultation The guidance is open for consultation until 1 February 2025, with final guidance expected later in the year. Feedback will be gathered through a survey, consultation process and pilot testing throughout 2025. 🔗 Provide feedback - https://lnkd.in/gXWf_tc4 #COP16 #TNFD #TransitionPlanning #Sustainability #Biodiversity #NaturePositive

🖥 Webinar – Understanding nature transition plans The mission of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF) – endorsed by almost 200 national governments – is to halt and reverse biodiversity loss by 2030. Delivering this requires significant changes to business practices across all sectors, incorporating nature into organisations’ strategy, planning and decision-making. Nature transition plans are a solid foundation to help organisations articulate how they plan to respond and contribute to the transition implied by the GBF. They also support business and financial institutions to build accountability, as well as to manage their nature-related dependencies, impacts, risks and opportunities. The paper presents guidance for corporates and financial institutions to develop robust, actionable nature transition plans to help organisations align business practices with the goals of the Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF). 🔽 Download the guidance - https://lnkd.in/e2ZH8XJf Join one of our two upcoming webinars on nature transition plans, in which we will provide an overview of our recently published draft guidance for corporates and financial institutions, which are currently open for consultation. 📅 26 November 2024 ⏱ Session 1 – 08:00 UTC 🔗 Register - https://lnkd.in/gGJC5-jv 📅 26 November 2024 ⏱ Session 2 – 16:00 UTC 🔗 Register - https://lnkd.in/gn4D_CKw 🗣 Speakers: ◾ Thomas H., Senior Manager – Lead, Transition Planning and Targets, TNFD ◾ Emily McKenzie, Technical Director, TNFD ◾ Tony Goldner, Executive Director, TNFD ◾ Abyd Karmali OBE, Managing Director, ESG Client Advisory, Bank of America; TNFD Taskforce Member ◾ David Croft, Group Head of Sustainability, Reckitt; TNFD Taskforce Member ◾ Joy Williams, Executive Director, Financial Institutions Transition Planning, Glasgow Financial Alliance for Net Zero (GFANZ) ◾ Ira Poensgen, Senior Associate, International Transition Plan Network (ITPN) ◾ Ben Gilbey, Technical Lead, International Transition Plan Network (ITPN) #TNFD #TransitionPlan #Webinar

🌍 Advancing nature & finance in Singapore Last week, David Craig, Co-Chair of the TNFD, visited Singapore to participate in the Insights Forum 2024 during the Singapore Fintech Festival, hosted by the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the Cambridge Centre for Alternative Finance, Cambridge Judge Business School and Elevandi, as well as the Singapore Sustainable Finance Association (SSFA) Natural Capital & Biodiversity Workstream. 💬 Key takeaways: 🔹 Tackling nature & climate as one Nature and climate are interconnected challenges that need integrated solutions. Waiting to address climate alone will delay vital action on nature, which directly underpins financial resilience and sustainable development. We need to shift our thinking and approach. 🔹 Transition planning: Opportunities & challenges Nature transition planning offers both risks and rewards. TNFD's approach, building on the work of GFANZ and TPT, provides guidance for corporates and financial institutions developing and disclosing a transition plan in line with the TNFD recommended disclosures. 🔹 A leading role for Singapore With over eight leading formal TNFD Adopters, many more piloting and a strong foundation in sustainable finance, Singapore is ideally positioned to lead on nature-related finance and support solutions across the #ASEAN region. Local businesses are already aligning with TNFD’s framework, advancing the region’s journey toward nature-positive outcomes. 🔹 Unlocking nature-based solutions In a unique workshop, the potential of bamboo as a “green gold” resource was explored. With its rapid growth, soil health benefits and carbon sequestration potential, bamboo exemplifies how natural assets can contribute to resilience, climate adaptation and economic value in urban areas. But changing existing business models and supply chains is not easy and requires intervention on policy, standards, private and public financing and support for local farmers. It may be time for a “Bamboo Bond”? 📈 Getting started with TNFD Asia & the Pacific represents 47% of TNFD’s Adopters, with Singapore setting bold biodiversity targets, from ecosystem restoration to educational programmes on native wildlife. Now is the time for organisations to get started with TNFD-aligned nature-related risk management and corporate reporting: https://lnkd.in/gVxa7XUq Thank you to Esther An, City Developments Limited, Asian Corporate Governance Association (ACGA), TPG, Asian Development Bank (ADB), Eric Lim, Gillian Koh Tan and Kenneth Gay (Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS), Valerie Lau, CFA, Franziska Zimmermann, Herry Cho, Lotte Schou Zibell Emily Chew (GIC) Wei Ling Koh, De Rui Wong Lawrence Loh #TNFD #NaturePositive #SustainableFinance #SingaporeFintechFestival #Singapore
