🎄 Meri Kirihimete from Tautoko Technology 🎄 As the year winds down and the summer sun warms up, we want to give a huge shoutout to everyone who’s been part of the Tautoko Tech whānau this year. Whether you’ve cheered us on, challenged us, or been part of the mission to redefine diabetes management – we couldn’t have done it without you. To the incredible clinicians, healthcare workers, and support teams: while the rest of us are sneaking a spoonful of trifle before breakfast or eating the toppings for the pavlovas, you’re keeping the wheels turning and making sure our communities are cared for. Ngā mihi nui – we see you, we appreciate you, and you deserve the biggest helpings to all the Christmas treats. As we step into summer, nau mai te waru o Rehua – let’s welcome the season of warmth, abundance, and hopefully a moment to put our feet up. Wishing you all a holiday filled with laughter, rest, and just enough sunshine to remind us why we love Aotearoa summers. See you in 2025 – refreshed, recharged, and ready to keep moving forward! About us
Tautoko Tech is a medical device company developing a patch insulin pump with wrap around support and education software. The team behind Tautoko Tech formed at the University of Canterbury (UC) after 15+ years of clinical diabetes research. The bioengineering lab have developed a low-cost insulin pump, with the goal to get medical technology into the hands that need them. Our team is proudly working with rural communities, developing an insulin pump by Māori, with Māori, for all who need one. Access to medical devices for people living with diabetes is limited by a vast wealth gap. We strive to close this gap using active community co-design, improving efficiency. Tautoko Tech is excited to be shaping the future models of care.

We had an absolute blast at the 2024 KiwiNet Awards, cheering on the legendary Distinguished Professor Geoff Chase as he took home the BNZ Researcher Entrepreneur Award! Geoff and the crew at Kiwinet have been key to our journey, backing us with the funding and support we needed to turn our research into a reality. We wouldn't be where we are without their #manaaki and feel privileged supporting those who have supported us. We love being part of the ecosystem, of researchers, investors and funders all coming together to turn big ideas into even bigger innovations. What a night to celebrate the wins and catch up with some great minds and thanks to everyone who made it a night to remember. #Medtech #2024KiwinetAwards #Startup #ManaakiMatters #ResearchToReality #StartUpLife #AotearoaInnovation James Hutchinson Rebecca Warr Duncan Mackintosh Sheryl T. Being around intelligent, ambitious people is generally what it means to be in the start-up space, and the dinner hosted by Angus Blair and Mat R. from Outset Ventures was a great example of this, but with way better food. King of Snake was a perfect place to share kai and engage in whanaungatanga with other #deeptech start-ups, especially those in Aerospace. That may seem like an odd combo for us, but nerds resonate with nerds :D To survive as a start-up, you need support through advice, mentorship, and hopefully pūtea. It was great to see Zach Warder-Gabaldon from the Ministry of Awesome Founder Catalyst Programme, of which we are recent alumni. Equally, it was awesome to catch up with Michelle Polglase, who is representing KiwiNet and has supported us through KiwiNet funding, allowing us to be investor-ready. #networking #AmbitiousNerds #startups #VC Jeremy Hallett Hidetaka Aoki Mahima Seth University of Canterbury #healthtech #medtech

Big thanks to Angus Blair and Mat R. from Outset Ventures, two of the hardest working people in Aotearoa #deeptech, for coming down to Ōtautahi Christchurch and bringing a group of us together for some kai after day one of the Aerospace New Zealand third annual Aerospace Summit #NZAS. Great to see familiar faces - Dr. Grace Walker, Jake Campbell, Hamish Janett, Michelle Polglase - as well as meet some new ones - Daisuke Ode, Camille Hunt. Let's do it again soon...there's lot's happening at Ministry of Awesome and throughout the Chch startup ecosystem!

Behind the scenes of a start-up, there is a lot of blood, sweat, tears, and sleepless nights involved in leading research through to commercialisation. With that being said, our CEO, Jake Campbell, has spent the past two years leading a research team dedicated to increasing equity of access to top-notch diabetes technology. From that research, Tautoko Technology was born! It's safe to say Jake has been the heart of our company, driving the development of our technology forward. We couldn't be more proud to see him and his hard work featured in the 2024 NZ Healthtech report. Now, let's be honest: neither the report nor this post can truly capture all the effort Jake has put in, alongside our co-founders Connor Benton and Dr. Grace Walker, to lead Tautoko Technology into its next big phase. We should also acknowledge that taking an insulin pump from research to commercialisation isn't easy and would not have been possible without the support of UC Mechanical Engineering, Science for Technological Innovation (SfTI) - He hiringa hangarau, he oranga tangata, KiwiNet, and Medtech-iQ Aotearoa. Remember, we are only just getting started, so follow along as we embark on our journey to take our Medtech global. #StartupLife #Healthtech #Innovation #TautokoTech #NZPride #MedTech #TINReport #Leadership #Research2Commericalisation
For the last two years, I've been part of an incredible research team formed around the mission to increase equity of access to the best diabetes technology. This journey has taken me from reconnecting with my iwi in Hokianga to presenting on the big stage in Canada, all made possible by the support of UC Mechanical Engineering, Science for Technological Innovation (SfTI) - He hiringa hangarau, he oranga tangata, KiwiNet, and Medtech-iQ Aotearoa. I'm thrilled to share the next chapter of this kaupapa, which I have the privilege of leading. Alongside Dr. Grace Walker and Connor Benton, we’ve founded Tautoko Technology, a company dedicated to helping patients manage their diabetes from the moment of diagnosis with our user-friendly insulin pump and comprehensive support software. Recently, I had the honour of being profiled in the NZ Healthtech Report as CEO of Tautoko Technology. This recognition is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our team, and it reinforces our commitment to simplifying diabetes management from day one. Stay tuned and follow Tautoko Technology (tautokotech.com) — exciting developments are on the horizon, and we can't wait to share them with you!

We were excited to be invited by Diana Siew to be part of a podcast series between Te Titoki Mataora's collaboration with Good Clinical, which is focused on highlighting the people and work we all do in this health-tech med-tech start up space. Two of our founders are big supporters of the TTM ecosystem and look forward to sharing the podcast episode with you all in a few weeks. We all know Dr. Grace Walker is passionate about our work so no doubt Charles Beasley may need to edit it down to bite size pieces 😅 but we promise it will be worth a listen. Don't forget to join us on our journey taking our medtech global by following along. #medtech #startup #TTM #podcast #Goodclinical

If you have seen me on any of the road shows you know I'm passionate and hyper nerd for everything I do. Well this evening is no different when Charles Beasley and I caught up and had some good yarns about Tautoko Tech and how I came to be part of this startup journey. There is so much more to what we do then just our tech so keep your eyes and ears peeled on Good Clinical to hear some great content and showcase a bit of the people associated with Te Tiko Mataora and the work they do. If your lucky you might even get to hear a little bit more about the soul(s) behind our company and why we are focused on solving diabetes. #podcast #medtech #startup #unapologeticallyMe #DrGrace #TTM

We had an absolute blast at the Icehouse Ventures Startup Block Party! 🎉 We always feel even more motivated after our regular catch-ups with our incredible mentor, Levi Fawcett, the CEO and founder of Partly. Watching him share his company's remarkable journey and ambitious expansion plans was nothing short of inspiring. If you ever spend time with Levi, you know what we are talking about. #inspiringhuman It was definitely a highlight to meet more of the Icehouse Ventures crew and hear about the amazing startups they’ve nurtured. Their commitment to creating a supportive ecosystem through diverse events and resources is always inspiring to hear, as startup life can be pretty challenging and knowing there are people who care for you along the way is always reassuring. In truth, startups are thrilling and dynamic, but they also come with their fair share of challenges and moments of isolation. We’re lucky to have three co-founders who support each other every step of the way. Even so, it's refreshing to take a night off, mingle with like-minded innovators, enjoy delicious food and great music, and share hilarious banter. Curious to join our journey? Follow along and see how a MedTech startup from Ōtautahi, Christchurch, takes its product global! 🌍 Also, a little shout out to our ever-zealous CRO, Dr Grace Walker, who always tries to capture a moment, even if it is a little blurry. We think it adds to the charm of the moment. #StartupLife #MedTech #TautokoTech #Innovation #Entrepreneurship #Christchurch Jake Campbell Connor Benton Mason Bleakley Jack McQuire

Our co-founder and CRO Dr. Grace Walker is a perfect example of the passion we have in our company to develop our insulin pumps and put them into the hands that want them. As a start up we are ecstatic to be partnering with the Johner Institute New Zealand Ltd. to ensure we can have a clear plan and focus to bring our tech to the people. Like and follow us, for all our up coming announcements and see the adventures of our team as we work towards taking #MedTech developed in #Aotearoa to the world.

To many medtech start ups and enginners learning regulatory compliance is boring and tedious. For example: Anne Arndt and I spent 2hrs today going over the differences in regulatory pathways to Europe (MDR), Australia (TGA) and America (FDA), the hidden/undisclosed costs and technical loop holes and tricks for each market to make the regulatory process easier and then once in a markets knowing the maintenance and surveillance requirements/costs for each market to sell your medtech. Now that may seem lame to you, but sarting up a medtech company costs millions and millions of dollars. Not having a regulatory plan and strategy to take your device to market can cost you even more money unnecessarily. What I love about regulatory is there are pathways and processes to follow, but it's my job to understand each pathway, ensure we are compliant and the real challenge is to have the added pressure of getting it all right with our team to ensure we don't need to spend extra millions unnecessarily. 😂 No pressure ae. Thankfully we have partnered with the Johner Institute New Zealand Ltd. to ensure we have their team of experts to support us. It also helps that nerds get to nerd out with nerds to be unapologetically nerdy 😎 #MedTech #Startup #RegulatoryNerds Narelle Hepi Tautoko Technology #unapologeticallyMe #UnapologeticallyNerdy

Day 2 of Health Tech week hosted by Te Titoki Mataroa in association with Medtech-iQ Aotearoa We were delighted to hear the announcement from Diana Siew that TTM will receive another 4 years of funding which means there is more money to support research through to commercialisation. It's unsurprising our CRO Dr. Grace Walker was able to bring her infectious energy to the room and had a friend of our project Jon Herries dancing his way to stage after the break. This event has definitely been an uplifting event focusing on the future and how we can deliver. As a newly formed company we were delighted to be in the room with our master student Lucy Jessep as well as 2 phd students from the mechatronics lab at University of Canterbury who are commonly known as the lung ladies Ella Guy Trudy Caljé-van der Klei. The big take aways of today were, listen to the end users and people who will be using your device, create partnerships and relationships that are meaningful and valuable. We can't wait to see the evolution of ElementX PocketLab Canaan Aumua, Kiriti Rambhatla at Metakosmos® & Brian Russell, PhD who are creating innovative solutions for the problems of today and tomorrow so keep them all on your radar. #HTW24 #medtech #healthtech #startups
