About us
Teach For Madagascar is a non-profit organization founded in November 2014. Its mission is to mobilize, recruit, and train educated individuals to contribute to the education sector. On November 8, 2021, Teach For Madagascar oficially became a non-governmental organization (NGO) and signed an agreement with the Ministry of National Education. Since its inception, TFM has recruited over 1,000 volunteers to participate in its programs. These volunteers play a vital role in the organization's mission, and their commitment and dedication are essential to achieving its long-term vision. LET'S READ: DIARY NOFY (2019 - present) Launched in September 2019, the Let's Read project aims to promote the love of reading among Malagasy children. Through its flagship program, Diary Nofy, up to 2024, 60,000 storybooks of two editions have been printed in Malagasy, French, and English, as well as in audio and Braille formats, and circulated in over 10,000 EPPs (public primary schools), schools for visually impaired children, and associations working with children. LET'S CONNECT: TALY CORPS (2021 - present) TALY Corps recruits and trains highly educated university graduate students to volunteer and contribute to quality education in remote schools. TALY Corps supports FRAM teachers with skills and resources to create a positive learning environment and enhance literacy skills. TALY Corps produces and provides interactive didactic materials to accommodate the learning process.

Join us as partners in the TALY Corps program and help us provide quality education in remote schools. Together, we can support the next group of Taly Corps volunteers who will work in rural communities. In Madagascar, approximately 80% of teachers are community-elected instructors known as FRAM teachers. Most of them have only completed primary education and have never received formal teacher training. In line with the convention between Teach For Madagascar and the Ministry of National Education, the TALY Corps program recruits and trains university graduates to provide a bottom-up training approach for FRAM teachers. This 3 to 6-month program focuses on enhancing teachers' motivation and equipping them with the essential teaching skills and resources needed to create positive learning experiences and foster reading habits among children. Without access to books and quality education, children in rural areas risk growing up illiterate. Email us at contact@teach4madagascar.org

We highly value our partnership with Radisson Hotels in Madagascar. Their generous support and contributions have played an important role in our efforts to achieve lasting changes in education since 2017.
#RadissonCares We are deeply honored to partner with Teach For Madagascar, a non-profit organization founded in 2014 with a noble mission: to mobilize and train volunteers to transform the future of education for children in need. Their commitment to providing free education in underserved communities resonates with our shared 'Think Community' values of giving back and empowering the next generation. Since 2021, we have been a proud partner of Teach For Madagascar working together on several initiatives, including the "Let's Read" project, which includes books such as Diary Nofy. The main aim of this initiative is to inspire a love of reading in Madagascar's children. We look forward to continuing to support their powerful work and future projects. Together, we are paving the way for a brighter, more equitable future for Madagascar's youth. Radisson Hotel Group #RadissonHotels #ThinkCommunity #ResponsibleBusiness

Approximately 80% of teachers in Madagascar are community-elected instructors known as FRAM teachers. Most of them have only completed primary education and have never received formal teacher training, which significantly contributes to the country's high illiteracy rate. The TALY Corps program recruits and trains university graduates to support FRAM teachers. The 3-6 month program involves developing teachers' motivation and equipping them with the basic teaching skills and resources necessary to create positive learning experiences and build reading habits among children. We are excited to announce that we will soon reveal the 2025 Let’s Read ambassadors who lead our reading movement across 24 regions! During the recruitment period in November, we received 120 applications from different areas. Currently, the shortlisted candidates are participating in task-based assessments. Since 2023, our regional Let’s Read Ambassador program has carefully selected and trained 22 ambassadors and nearly 100 field agents from 11 NGOs. Local volunteers have been recruited and trained to promote a love of reading within their communities. Using the Diary Nofy storybooks, these volunteers work with teachers to establish reading initiatives in schools and orphanages. In rural areas, where many struggle with low literacy rates due to limited access to quality education and resources, a book, a dedicated ambassador, a small team of volunteers, and regular reading sessions can significantly impact schools, orphanages, villages, and communities throughout the country. Join us as a partner. Email us at contact@teach4madagascar.org for more information.

A brief history How did a small group of young Malagasy individuals inspire an educational and volunteering movement in Madagascar? In early 2014, the first team of Teach For Madagascar was formed, consisting of a teacher and six university graduates who were dedicated to advancing the country's development through education. United by a shared vision and strong commitment, these seven individuals collaborated, investing considerable time, creativity, and energy to launch their first educational project in March 2015. Their efforts quickly resonated with other young, educated Malagasy individuals from diverse backgrounds, inspiring many to join the movement. LET'S TEACH: SANTATRA, KOLO, V AKANA, JARY (2015 - 2021) The Let’s Teach project recruited and trained volunteers, referred to as Zoky (older brother/sister in Malagasy), to leverage their skills, passion, and talents in support of all-level public school students through programs focused on civic engagement, gender education, critical thinking, media literacy, English, environmental issues, and after-school tutoring. A specific literacy program was developed for the SANTATRA Street Project to assist children not enrolled in school. In addition to their teaching roles, volunteers also had the chance to build meaningful relationships with students as mentors. LET'S READ: DIARY NOFY (2019 - present) Launched in September 2019, the Let's Read project aims to promote the love of reading among Malagasy children. Diary Nofy, the flagship program, was created to start the movement. The Let's Read Ambassador Program and KOKO, the campaign's mascot, are vital in promoting a positive reading culture and enjoyable literacy activities. LET'S CONNECT: TALY CORPS (2021 - present) TALY Corps recruits and trains highly educated university graduate students (*less than 2% of the Malagasy population) to volunteer and contribute to quality education in remote schools. TALY Corps supports FRAM teachers with skills and resources to create a positive learning environment and enhance literacy skills. TALY Corps produces and provides interactive didactic materials to accommodate the learning process. *Percentage of graduates from tertiary education graduating from Services programs, both sexes (%) in Madagascar was reported at 1.3372 % in 2018 (World Bank report 2018)

Teach For Madagascar, in partnership with the UK Embassy in Madagascar, is hosting a photo exhibition that captures the essence of our Let's Read Project, in particular the flagship programme, Diary Nofy. The exhibition seeks to raise awareness of the need to improve foundational learning and encourage active participation in helping all Malagasy children to learn - through access to books and developing a love of stories as an entry point for reading. Venue: Radisson Blue Tana Water Front, Antananarivo Open to the Public (free admission): 8 - 18 December 2024 Monday to Saturday, from 10H00 until 16H00 Expertly photographed by Rindra Randriandimbimahazo and Chan Hong Men Océane, each picture conveys extraordinary stories, dreams and hopes. The 24 images selected by Pierrot Men, a long-term partner of Teach For Madagascar, vividly capture the wonder, curiosity, enthusiasm and joy experienced by children across Madagascar as they encounter beautifully illustrated books for the first time, listen to stories, meet KOKO - the Let's Read mascot - and learn to read. We invite schools, universities, and children's centers to benefit from this 11-day exhibition. Plan your visit to fully engage with the experience and inspire your students to join the reading movement. Our exhibition staff and volunteers will be available to guide you throughout your visit and can organize a reading session for your students (conditions apply). For more details, please email us at contact@teach4madagascar.org. The exhibition venue is generously sponsored by Radisson Blu Tana Waterfront, Antananarivo, and supported by the UK Embassy in Madagascar as part of their partnership with Teach for Madagascar. For all enquiries related to the exhibition and the Let’s Read Project, please contact +261 38 21 217 87 (Olivia Rafetison, Teach For Madagascar)

⚪ We are grateful for our 5th cohort of TALY Corps partners and collaborators : MNS Foundation, La Dune des Songes, Lemur Conservation Network, Conservation Fusion, Lemur Conservation Foundation, Residence Madalief, Feedback Madagascar, Friends of Madagascar - FoM
