Two Teachers Learning and Teaching Python | Building a Community of Educators, Developers, and Students Through Python

About us

"Teaching Python" is a podcast hosted by Kelly Schuster-Paredes and Sean Tibor, dedicated to helping educators navigate the world of computer science and Python programming. Through their experiences teaching Python, they explore real-world challenges like problem-solving, overcoming frustration, and celebrating success in the classroom. Our mission is to support teachers in mastering both the art and science of teaching Python, empowering them to introduce coding and computational thinking to students of all levels. By sharing best practices, resources, and insights, we aim to help more educators bring coding into their classrooms and inspire the next generation of problem solvers.

  • Day 7 of the Holiday Gift Countdown for Coders! Today’s Pick: reMarkable 2 Tablet (Kelly's Pick) As someone who’s been using the reMarkable for years, I can say this tablet has been one of my all-time favorite tools for so many reasons. Why I Love It: It feels just like writing on paper, but with all the benefits of digital organization. I use it for everything: sketching out algorithm examples, drafting lesson plans, handwriting to-do lists, and even reading without distractions. It keeps me productive and focused in a way no other device has. Perfect for CS Teachers: Whether I’m brainstorming classroom ideas or explaining abstract coding concepts visually, the lightweight and portable design makes it ideal for both personal and professional use. Bonus Features: No notifications, no apps—just pure focus. It’s the perfect antidote to distraction, and I love how it helps me stay in the zone when planning or teaching. Sean's Take: I was just playing with one of these over the weekend and I'm still impressed with how natural it feels to write on the screen. They really nailed the texture so it feels like paper. I even got to try out the new reMarkable Paper Pro, which has a COLOR display. WOOO! Link in the comments.

Day 6 of the Holiday Gift Countdown for Coders! Today’s Pick: Logitech MX Master 3S (Sean's Pick) I've had a Logitech mouse on my desk for many, many years, and this one by far is my favorite. Some people prefer a trackpad, but I'm not one of them. Give me a mouse any day of the week. Why we Love It: It's very ergonomic, tracks smoothly on just about anything, and the scroll wheels just go forever. This one is rechargeable and lasts for weeks between charges. It also connects to up to 3 different devices, including your phone or tablet. Lots of customization: In addition to the regular scroll wheel, the MX Master 3S has a horizontal scroll wheel for your thumb, which you can use to easily scroll sideways. Let's face it, sometimes we all cheat and have Python lines more than 88 characters wide. Ergonomics are for professionals: Having a good working setup is what allows you to be a sustainable coder. It's like good posture in front of the classroom. You'll feel a lot better with a thoughtful, comfortable setup. Hint: check out the Logitech MX vertical mouse if you have wrist problems. Kelly's Take:m: I’m not much of a mouse person—compact setups are more my style—but my sons are convinced this mouse is the secret weapon for Minecraft greatness. If it helps them build their virtual mansions or chicken farms faster, who am I to argue? Links in the comments!! #TeachingPython #HolidayGiftGuide #STEMEducation #Nanoleaf #CodingGifts #SmartTech

Calling All Computer Science Teachers! Join the Conversation at PyCon US 2025 In this rerun episode of Teaching Python recorded live at PyCon US 2024 Sean Tibor and Kelly Schuster- Paredes discuss why PyCon is more than just a conference—it's a thriving community of developers, educators, and learners. This year we want to get more CS teachers at the Pycon Education Summit on May 15, 2025!! This episode of the podcast was buzzing with discussions about how we can get more educators involved in the Python community. Why Should Educators Attend PyCon? Whether you're a seasoned computer science teacher or someone new to coding, PyCon offers many opportunities to: Discover new tools, techniques, and trends in Python. Build a professional learning network with educators and developers. Take innovative ideas back to your classroom and curriculum. We know that attending a tech conference as an educator can feel daunting. There are challenges like cost, time away from the classroom, and even imposter syndrome. But trust us—PyCon is one of the most welcoming and supportive communities for all skill levels. We believe educators are key to shaping the next generation of Python programmers. Whether you're teaching loops or APIs, PyCon provides the knowledge and confidence to make your teaching even more impactful. PyCon US 2025 is in Pittsburgh, PA. Start planning your trip today and explore the Education Summit—a space where teachers and developers come together to share, learn, and grow. The Education Summit will open up submission proposals after the New Year and Python Software Foundation Pycon 2025 page is already out. Links to the page are in the comments. What’s stopping you from joining us this year? Let us know in the comments or reach out if you want tips on attending! #PyConUS #TeachingPython #PythonEducation #CSforAll #ProfessionalDevelopment https://lnkd.in/eucATHsF

  • Day 5 of the Holiday Gift Countdown for Coders! Today’s Pick: Nanoleaf Shapes Hexagons Smarter Kit (Kelly's Pick) These smart light panels are a favorite of mine for creating a tech-friendly and inspiring atmosphere in the classroom or workspace. I have different light modes and fixtures all over the room, thanks to Sean Tibor initial decorations of Fairy Lights and DIY Geoleafs. Why we Love It: Turning off the fluorescent lights and putting on colorful, dynamic patterns instantly changes the mood. They’re also a great conversation starter with students, setting the stage for coding and design projects. It is also a showstopper for admission tours at your school. There is also some theorethical support from cognitive scientists that neopixels support moods and brain productivity. Customizable and Interactive: The colors and patterns can be adjusted to fit the lesson or activity. Students love the interactivity, and it’s a fun way to connect design with technology. Great for STEM Inspiration: These panels are perfect for sparking discussions about circuits, energy usage, and smart tech, making them both practical and engaging for teaching. If you’re looking to add some creativity and energy to your classroom, these light panels are a must-have! Sean's Take: "I love these in both the classroom and the office because create dynamic art that soothes and inspires. As one of my last projects before I made the transition from teaching back to development, I built two "Geoleaf" open-source RGB light kits. So if making is more your speed, give the Geoleaf a shot.
