Thrilled by participating in the Temporal Technologies replay'25, and it was an incredible learning experience! During the event, I had the opportunity to collaborate with talented individuals, innovate, and solve complex challenges using temporal java sdk. I had a chance to attend the annual Temporal Technologies customer conference #Replay2025 which took place in London this week. I have been working with the company for 5 years now so I should know it well... But I continue to be amazed at the multiplicity of Temporal's use cases: from the Chaos rendering animated movies in the cloud, to Mollie and Mercury running payments, to Salesforce doing database migrations, to Datadog running 80 different use cases. Temporal Technologies can always pack the room, and one feels the genuine user love! Many new product announcements: - one-click migration from self-hosted open source deployment to Temporal Cloud while the workflows are live and running of course. The VMware alum in me would call this "VMotion for Temporal workflows". - GA of Temporal Nexus, e.g. the ability for workflow to spend organizational boundaries. Imagine the possibilities: a workflow can call any external API, and benefit from the Temporal availability guarantees. - multi-region replication Well done Samar Abbas, Maxim Fateev, Preeti Somal, Clair B., Timothy Hughes, Jim Cyb, and the entire team!

With Every App Becoming an AI App, Are Durable Workflows the New Service Mesh? 🛜🤖 As Outropy is built on Temporal Technologies, this comes up often in conversations with clients and partners—with durable workflow engines like Inngest, Camunda, and DBOS, Inc. popping up everywhere. Watching Maxim Fateev's keynote at Temporal's conference, I had to smile when I saw a slide almost identical to one from my 2017 YOW! Conferences keynote series on "The Next Generation of Microservices". The challenge remains: extract undifferentiated platform complexity so developers can focus on business logic. The difference is in the approach. Back then, microservices were the default for any application hitting scale, and the industry’s response was to manage complexity as close to the network as possible. Service Mesh companies were everywhere, pushing forward what we often called "a user-land layer to the TCP/IP stack". Today, infrastructure has evolved in ways that let teams delay breaking apart monoliths, and durable workflows are emerging as a fundamentally different way to handle scale. As agentic AI systems break traditional microservices patterns, durable workflows may not just be an alternative—they could be the next evolution. Are durable workflows picking up where service mesh left off?

Just wrapped up an incredible time at Temporal Replay 2025 in London! 🚀 Always great to be surrounded by brilliant minds and dive deep into how we can push workflows to the next level. A few key takeaways that stood out to me: 🔹 Agentic AI workflows – Seeing workflows that can operate autonomously and make decisions was a huge eye-opener. The possibilities for automation are growing fast! 🔹 Self-hosting vs. Temporal Cloud – We all love control, but running workflows at scale isn’t always smooth sailing. Temporal Cloud really highlighted how offloading the heavy lifting can free up time to focus on what really matters—building great systems. 🔹 Front-end workflows – Seeing how workflows can be integrated directly into the user experience was exciting. It’s not just about the backend—workflows can drive richer, more dynamic front-end interactions too. Always inspiring to see what’s next in the world of workflows. At Temporal Technologies #Replay2025 we held our first #Community #Hackathon and it was such an *incredible* event to be part of! 🤩 Over 60 participants gathered for a day chock-full of innovation, fun, and (mostly) controlled chaos. 😉 We ran the event #unconference-style, where participants pitched ideas at the start of the day, then split into tables by general theme, and finally brave folks got up to do demos at the end of the night to showcase what was built. Well that’s a wrap on Temporal Technologies #Replay2025 conference! As always it was a blast, and as is tradition with the Replay conference, my team delivered AMAZING workshops again this year. Huge congratulations to Alex Garnett and Angela Zhou for leading the Go and .NET workshops respectively (I led Java once again haha). We trained over 100 attendees on Temporal, from beginner to experienced, and everyone had a great time.
