TSUAg MANRRS was at it again last Friday in the group's latest professional development workshop. The accomplished plant biologist, educator, and science communicator Dr. Mary Williams was on hand for the meeting, speaking to the group over Zoom on conference communications skills. Scientific conferences provide invaluable opportunities for networking, discovering new research, and presenting one's work, and as such Friday's session offered strategies for making the most of a conference experience, with a special focus on effective research presentations—whether through a talk or a poster. Thanks to Dr. Sonali Roy and the @nationalscienc for supporting this talk.

The TSUAg Department of Human Sciences kicked off the newly revamped and revitalized chapter of the Kappa Omicron Nu (KON) yesterday. The five new members of KON are new President Olivia Whitmore, Vice-President Tsira Calhoun, Secretary Kristian Butler, Media Manager Miracle Alford and Treasurer Karielle Simmons. The group will be mentored by Dr. Brione Lockett and Extension staffer Marion Mosby. "These student leaders have demonstrated a commitment to scholarship, leadership, and research and embody the values of KON and the Human Sciences," said Lockett of the new class. KON is the national honor society for the human sciences, a prestigious organization that recognizes academic excellence and leadership potential in students who study fields that improve the quality of life for individuals, families, and communities. These fields include human development, public health, family studies, nutrition, and consumer sciences.

The Tennessee State University (TSU) Tiger Food Pantry has received a generous $1,000 donation from Dollar General to support food security, health, and accessibility for TSU students. The Tiger Food Pantry, overseen by Dr. Stacey Puckett-Walker, Assistant Vice President of Student Services, provides critical support to students facing food insecurity. Dr. Puckett-Walker has been instrumental in fostering partnerships and securing community support, ensuring the pantry can effectively address the needs of TSU students. “We are incredibly grateful to Dollar General for their generous donation,” said Dr. Puckett-Walker. “This support will significantly help us continue to provide nutritious food, limited toiletries, and valuable educational resources, including healthy recipes, to our students and campus community.” Dr. Puckett-Walker collaborates closely with a dedicated team, including TSU students, Dr. Brione Lockett, Assistant Professor within the College of Human Sciences/Cooperative Extension and Director of the Community Nutrition Education Programs (CNEP), and Marion Mosby, Graphic Designer for CNEP, to ensure the pantry is well-stocked and effectively serves the needs of the TSU community.

Few aspects of academic life are as vital as the Tennessee State University College of Agriculture's dedication to fostering productive and positive mentor/mentee relationships. Throughout our past and continuing on through today students at the College have grown personally and professionally through their mentor/mentee relationships. As we come to a close on National #MentoringMonth, we wanted to take a moment to celebrate the students and faculty members who make the magic of mentoring possible on TSU's campus. Thanks to each of you! #MentoringAmplifies

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) recently published a wonderful story about the work Dr. Tom Byl has been doing with students at the College of Agriculture's summer apprentice program. TSUAg undergrad Aaliyah Cotton, who is now a part-time USGS intern, is quoted in the story, as is Amelia Tappler, an incredibly bright high school student that participated in the SAP program last summer.
