  • Negative thoughts happen to all of us—even the most positive and optimistic people. And right now with some uncertainty in our worlds combined with the holidays — managing our stress and staying positive can be difficult. Stress management is closely tied to how we handle our negative thoughts. If we can learn to reframe and better manage them, we’ll not only improve our mental well-being but also reduce stress and allow ourselves to be more optimistic. Here are 5 strategies I use to shift my mindset and manage stress when negative thinking creeps in: 1️⃣ Question the validity of the thought: Is this negative thought based on fact or just assumption? Do you know for sure that it's true, or did you see something on social media that made you spiral? 2️⃣ Explore alternatives: Could there be a different perspective you’re missing? Stress often narrows our thinking, so looking for other angles can open up more productive possibilities. 3️⃣ Find the positives: No matter how tough the situation seems, there's always something positive to focus on. 4️⃣ Practice mindfulness: Mindfulness helps you stay present and question the hold negative thoughts have over your emotions. This reduces their power to create stress. 5️⃣ Limit exposure to overwhelming information: Now is not the time to constantly consume news. Set boundaries that will allow you to stay informed without getting overwhelmed. _____________________ How are you managing stress and staying positive during this season?

Join us in celebrating Julie Zeoli’s appointment as the City of Irvine's first City Librarian. This is a major undertaking, and Julie will be working closely with City Manager Oliver Chi and Director of Community Services Chris Slama to guide the process. With over 15 years of library experience, including seven years as an Assistant Library Director, Julie is ready to lead this exciting initiative.   “Establishing a public library system has been a long-awaited community priority and will allow us to expand our exceptional services in Irvine,” Chi said. “I’m excited to have Julie leading the development of our own library system. I can’t wait to see all she does to help us develop the best library operation that exists anywhere in the country.”   Julie holds an undergraduate degree in History from California State University, Fullerton and a Master of Library Information Science from San José State University and became part of Team Irvine this week.   Special thanks to Oliver and Chris for trusting Teri Black & Company, LLC with this transformational recruitment and a very loud s/o to Senior Recruiter/COO Tina White for producing an incredible pool of candidates!! • Women’s voices and confidence are more important than ever, and it’s time to stop holding ourselves back with unnecessary apologies. So many of us second-guess ourselves, sometimes apologizing as a default, even when we’ve done nothing wrong. But what if we flipped the script? Let’s shift from self-doubt to self-assurance. 💯 Here are 9 strategies to help us embrace our confidence and stop over-apologizing: ➡️ Trust ourselves and own our value ➡️ Express empathy without apology ➡️ Show appreciation instead of remorse ➡️ Respect everyone’s viewpoint without undermining our own ➡️ Speak thoughtfully but unapologetically ➡️ Take responsibility without over-explaining ➡️ Speak sincerely and directly ➡️ Prioritize finding solutions ➡️ Let actions speak louder than words These strategies are meant to empower each of us in our unique way. ___ Have you noticed that many people, especially women, tend to apologize more often?
