  • Today, we had the privilege of honoring fallen DPS Trooper David Irvine Rucker with the dedication of a memorial highway in his name. Trooper Rucker began his career with DPS in July 1968. He was tragically shot and killed in the line of duty on September 29, 1981, after stopping a subject for a traffic violation. He was stationed in Port Isabel. Trooper Rucker was a true hero who faithfully served the people of Texas, and this memorial highway serves as a permanent reminder of his service and sacrifice. His legacy continues to live on in the hearts of everyone at DPS. He will never be forgotten. Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. – John 15:13 📸 Courtesy of DPS' South Texas Region

  • Last week, Colonel Freeman Martin visited with Recruit School Class A-2025 at the DPS Training Academy to share words of wisdom and insight with this new class. Now in their seventh week, these men and women are learning the skills needed to become DPS Troopers. It takes a tremendous amount of determination to complete the DPS Academy, and the words Colonel Martin shared will no doubt help these recruits on their toughest days. • If you see something, do something. DPS reminds Texans to stay vigilant and be aware of your surroundings — and report suspicious behavior/activity to law enforcement using iWatchTexas. iWatchTexas is a one-stop shop to report suspicious activity and subsequently alert law enforcement to that activity. It's easy-to-use and usually takes less than five minutes to complete. Reports submitted to iWatchTexas are confidential. Submit a report 24/7 using any of the following: 📱 the (FREE) iWatchTexas mobile app; 💻 the iwatchtx.org website; or ☎️ by calling 844-643-2251. [Please note: iWatchTexas is not designed to report emergencies. If a situation requires an emergency response, call 911.]

  • Most vehicle safety inspections were eliminated as of January 1, 2025, due to changes to Texas’ Vehicle Safety Inspection Program. These changes mean non-commercial vehicles no longer need a safety inspection prior to registration. However, Texans whose vehicles are registered in emissions counties are still required to have emissions tests. More information about the changes can be found at https://bit.ly/3PjAncL.
