Looking to 2025, Texas Housers is focusing on these housing issues at the 89th Texas Legislature - Today, Texas Housers announces our legislative priorities for the 89th Texas Legislature, which begins January 14th, 2025. Low-income Texans face multiple overlapping crises on the issue of housing. More and more, Texans cannot afford their homes, and this cost burden is heavily concentrated among lowest-income households and renters. Tenant protections in Texas have been stripped back to next to nothing, placing renters in unstable situations and increasing the risk of homelessness. Texas’ affordable […] https://lnkd.in/g6RyDEjB

“Whether the employees acted on their own discretion and whether that discretion was in good faith, it’s still concerning to see employees circumventing policies put in place by (the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development) for good reason – which is to put guardrails in place.” - Taylor Laredo, Housers' Community Navigator https://lnkd.in/eznAzN4R

Yes! Do not allow these groups fully invested in accelerating the eviction process even quicker (and more unfairly) to promote the idea of "squatters" overrunning rental units. It is simply not happening like this. Read more in San Antonio Express-News: https://lnkd.in/gDWtXa77

The 2024 Houser Awards honored advocates who are meeting this urgent moment for low-income households - On November 12, Austin’s Zilker Clubhouse was packed with attendees for our 2024 Houser Awards. It was a great honor to showcase the work of fierce advocates Kayla Miranda, Tanya Lavelle, and the Hon. Steve Duble and Hon. Dolores Lozano. These individuals each are effecting change in their own way, making Texas a better place to call home for low-income households. The support in the room for each of these individuals was palpable. The change they are creating is personal, not simply an occupation. For people like awardee Kayla Miranda, achieving safety and dignity for low-income households is her life’s […] https://lnkd.in/dq9-3R8z
