Texas Agriculture Matters!
About us
The Texas Legislature established the Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA) in 1907. The agency's key objectives are to promote production agriculture, consumer protection, economic development and healthy living. The agriculture commissioner oversees the agency and is elected every four years. The current commissioner, Sid Miller, was first elected in 2014 and reelected in 2018 and 2022. TDA is a diversified state agency that provides value-added services through our regulatory and marketing and initiatives. TDA is headquartered in Austin and has five regional service offices, two sub-offices, three laboratories and five livestock export facilities. TDA’s mission is to partner with all Texans to make Texas the nation's leader in agriculture, fortify our economy, empower rural communities, promote healthy lifestyles, and cultivate winning strategies for rural, suburban and urban Texas through exceptional service and the common threads of agriculture in our daily lives.

https://lnkd.in/gUnfAAWB With the end to the Christmas season, and a start to a new year, this article reveals the numbers that show how Texas Christmas tree farms stimulate the growth of the state's economy. Commissioner Miller thanks all the tree farmers and sellers who worked hard this season. "In anticipation of spring 2025 planting, the Texas Christmas Tree Growers Association recently reported Texas growers have already purchased more than 130,000 seedlings. After the holiday season, real Christmas trees can be repurposed and recycled for many uses. Real Christmas trees can be used as landscape mulch in yards and gardens as soil erosion prevention, nest-building materials for birds and natural water habitats for fish and wildlife in ponds or lakes." #TexasAgricultureMatters

COMMISSIONER MILLER OP-ED: Just down the street from the Austin headquarters of the Texas Department of Agriculture is a trailer selling consumable cannabis products; the sole purpose of these products is to inebriate. When did the Texas legislature debate recreational marijuana and ultimately vote to legalize it? The answer is, they didn’t. Thanks to loose legal language and generous interpretations of the law, an unregulated market for recreational marijuana has sprung up across Texas #TexasAgricultureMatters READ HERE: https://ow.ly/7svR50Uz63T
