🎉 Exciting News for Thalo Labs! 🎉 We’re thrilled to share that we have been selected for one the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) $20 million voucher program, supporting innovative technologies to address critical energy and environmental challenges. With this support, we’ll be partnering with Grand Summit Group to validate our sensors for monitoring nitrous oxide (N₂O), methane (CH₄), and other greenhouse gas emission for industrial applications. A huge thank you to the DOE and all our partners for recognizing the potential of this technology to deliver scalable, cost-effective solutions that empower industries to meet decarbonization goals while improving operational efficiency. Let’s innovate for impact. 💡 🌎 #ClimateTech #Innovation #GHGMonitoring #Decarbonization #Sustainability #DOE #ThaloLabs
📢 The latest Voucher Recipients have confirmed their partnerships with Voucher Providers—worth over $20M! Congratulations to the organizations that have been matched through DOE’s Voucher Program! The U.S. DOE Office of Technology Transitions, in collaboration with the Offices of Clean Energy Demonstrations (OCED), Office of Fossil Energy and Carbon Management | U.S. Department of Energy, and Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE), previously announced that over 170 companies, tribes, and local governments will receive support to advance commercialization of clean energy technologies in the form of in-kind DOE-funded vouchers. The #VoucherProgram is designed to grant small businesses, local governments, and other non-traditional partners access to the vetted resources and expertise they need to bring their clean energy technologies and projects to the next level. In this recent round, the program offered 7 different Vouchers support across many capabilities ranging from testing facility access to trusted third-party subject matter expertise. Did you know that 62% of A/C systems operate below spec due to incorrect refrigerant charge, while 70% of gas-burning appliances leak natural gas? These inefficiencies not only drive up costs but also contribute significantly to emissions. We had a great time chatting with Keely Anson from Shared Future Fund about how Thalo Labs is tackling these challenges head-on. 🌎 Check out the full blog post, where our CEO Brendan Hermalyn shares how our Copilot platform helps building operators move from reactive to preventive maintenance—reducing downtime, cutting emissions, and saving money across the built environment. ♻ 🏢 Link: https://lnkd.in/eVv-twhj
I'm super excited to share more about Thalo Labs’s newly expanded product suite, Copilot! They now deliver HVAC monitoring and insights to help customers catch issues early, reduce energy costs, and improve equipment performance - all without the need for costly retrofits (huge!). By leveraging technology advancements in photonics, on-device processing and cloud connectivity, Thalo makes it easy (and cost-effective) to deploy sensing and analytics to EVERY building. Read more from Shared Future Fund portfolio founder, Brendan Hermalyn (CEO), and Nina Nappa (Chief of Staff), about how they’re shaping the future of sustainable buildings ♻️ 🏢 CC: Collaborative Fund https://lnkd.in/dF8kMjiM

I've been asked this week numerous times what the election results will mean for Thalo Labs. My best way of summarizing it was: surfing the financial, economic, carbon, and social waves in this industry is hard. It’s our job to figure out how to sell sustainability, whether we call it "climate tech" on Tuesday or "energy transition" on Wednesday. I thought it might be useful to make our note to our internal team and investors on the election results public. _____________________________ Thalonians and friends thereof: I don't think of Thalo as a political company, but there are some practical realities around how administrations can affect, both positively and negatively, the decarbonization of our society. Climate change and the energy transition are more politically loaded than ever and it is likely this shift will negatively impact the velocity of humanity's path to net negative carbon emissions. It's 77°F out right now in NYC- on November 6th. So what is a young enterprising climate startup to do? First, we must continue to anchor on the reality of the energy transition. It's not a question of “if,” but it is a question of “when and how painful.” How does it go faster? Money, capitalism, and regulation. The IRA/Chips/etc., incentives kicked the ball down the hill but really were only the tip of the megatrend iceberg. Remember, incentives and tax breaks exist for petrochemical extraction and mining (~$649b/year according to IMF) which means we're already monkeying with the free market...it's just the direction of that monkeying that we should be looking at. Regardless, the end point is unchanged. The other thing to remember is that, brass tacks, businesses are defined as entities that make more money than they spend. The way we can achieve our ultimate mission of emissions reductions, independent of political party in charge, is to make excellent products and solutions that customers want to buy and use- all while saving emissions. The externality of the capital "P" Problem of "there's too much GHG entering and staying in the atmosphere" must be converted into actionable pain points for customers to have commercial traction. Would it be easier if someone randomly paid us carbon credits to do this? Or regulation was passed for exactly our emissions monitoring? Of course. They are likely still coming. But our north star has been obvious for a bit: we can sigh at having to do it the hard way - once- then get back to work making delightful products people and companies need and want. The sustainability companies that come out of this period will be incredibly strong - because they'll have to be. I am confident Thalo will be one of them and we will look back with pride when we get to the next phase. Onward, -Brendan

On behalf of everybody here at Thalo Labs, Happy Carbon Removal Day everybody! https://lnkd.in/eh5S5iSU We spend most of our time working on reducing the greenhouse gases entering the atmosphere. This begs the question of "what happens next?" when we get to net-zero emissions. That's where carbon removals come in. Most scientists and experts believe that we'll have to be taking CO2 out of the atmosphere for decades to return to pre-industrial levels- and Thalo is here to help.
