About us
The African Research Academies for Women (ARA-W) is an organization aimed at expanding opportunities for African women interested in the field of science. It seeks, for the first time, to enable University women, who are pursuing the sciences to be introduced to the world of research and enrich their love for science. ARA-W recognizes a lack of scientific research opportunities for women in the African Continent due to sociocultural influences and the marginalization of women. Yet, it is also evident that in order to transition to a “developed continent” standing, it is necessary to advance the scientific aptitude of the continent—which can be achieved through increased scientific research opportunities for women. Thus, ARA-W hopes to bridge the gender gap between male and female Scientists, while stimulating an interest in STEM education among women in Africa. And hopefully, through the sustenance of that interest, Africa can also produce excellent female scientists such as Nobel Laureates, Frances-Barre (who discovered the HIV virus) and Marie Currie (an acclaimed physicist and chemist). We trust that opening the world of research to women will enable the continent to produce scientists who can compete with their colleagues at both the domestic and international front. Through this organization, we hope to empower women, who could in return, fuel the economic transformation of the African Continent.

💫💫💫💫💫💫𝗗𝗔𝗬 𝟭 𝗢𝗙 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗔𝗥𝗔-𝗪 𝗪𝗢𝗥𝗞𝗦𝗛𝗢𝗣💫💫💫💫💫💫💫 Before I dive into my 𝗸𝗲𝘆 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗮𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀 from the Day 1 of the 3-day ARA-W The African Research Academies for Women Inc. workshop, I would like to acknowledge the 𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗰𝗼-𝗳𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀 Kwadwo Sarpong, MD and Shadrack Osei Frimpong . I really hope that I never 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿 from the impact of those 3 days. My God! Hats off also to the entire leadership of the Academies for your tireless efforts in promoting 𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝘄𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻 𝗶𝗻 𝗦𝗧𝗘𝗠. 𝗡𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗼𝗻𝘀: The keynote speaker Shadrack Osei Frimpong, who 𝗯𝗲𝗱𝗮𝘇𝘇𝗹𝗲𝗱 me by his 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗼𝗹𝘂𝘁𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗳 in the power of a 𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗱𝘀𝗲𝘁 𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗳𝘁, spoke to us on the need to find our 𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗲 𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 and prepare for 𝘀𝗲𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 if we are ever going to be great. This separation meant that we would have to let go of all 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗳𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗱𝘀, while clinging to things and people who would be 𝗿𝗲𝗹𝗲𝘃𝗮𝗻𝘁 to our journeys. Dr. Evelyn Yayra Bonney also enlightened us on the fact that our choice of a research area is influenced by many things primary among them being our personal interests, current academic trends, societal needs and our knowledge. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱'𝘀 𝗺𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗠𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗻 Angela Tabiri, PhD also took us through her 𝗗𝗦𝗜 approach to submitting a strong application for a scholarship or fellowship. She encouraged us 𝘁𝗼 𝗱𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗺, 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗶𝘀𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁. We ended the day with the 𝗮𝗳𝗳𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 Prof Linda Fondjo and Prof Vivian Etsiapa Boamah who took us through 𝗘𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗦𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗪𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 as well as 𝗪𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗮𝗹 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗚𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘁𝘀. I cannot emphasize enough how 𝘄𝗵𝗼𝗹𝗲𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲 and 𝗵𝗼𝗹𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰 those 3 days were! I am grateful to have sat under the tutelage of such great speakers!🥳❤️

Passionate Business Leader| Speaker |Strategic Analyst | Engaging Expert | Proficient Facilitator | Recognized Educator| Turning Visions into Reality
On Thursday August 29, 2024, I had the distinct honor of facilitating a leadership and teamwork workshop tailored for a talented group of young female STEM graduates. Our discussions centered around vital leadership qualities, the unique challenges they may encounter in their careers due to ingrained biases, and proactive strategies to overcome these obstacles. The hands-on practical sessions were particularly enriching, resulting in outstanding outcomes. My sincere gratitude goes to the Kwadwo Sarpong, MD Olivia Vashti Ayim and The African Research Academies for Women Inc. for giving me the opportunity to contribute to this transformative experience. Let me give my special thanks to Ohemaa Dabankah and the entire support team for making sure I had everything I needed to deliver. I’m most grateful. It was an inspiring journey to empower these future female leaders in STEM. Like I told them, empower a woman and you empower the world!! Please see some memorable shots taken on this occasion!
