The first widespread practice of adding sugar to a beverage is believed to have occurred over 600 years ago. The trend began primarily among the upper classes in the 1600s, where sugar was considered a luxury item and was added to counter the bitter taste of tea. #SugarFactWednesday #AmalgamatedSugar #Sugarbeets

Amalgamated Sugar is proud to advocate for our growers, employees, and the sugarbeet industry. Our very own sugarbeet grower, Blake Matthews, received the prestigious Environmental Stewardship Governor's Award at the Idaho Ag Summit! This well-deserved recognition honors Blake's commitment to improving air, water, and soil quality through innovative practices and technologies. Congratulations, Blake! At the summit, Blake and fellow grower, Nathan Garner also shared their expertise on regenerative agriculture in Idaho. Furthering our commitment to the industry, VP & General Counsel, Christina Hardesty and Snake River Sugarbeet Growers Association President, Zach Patterson, teamed up to represent Amalgamated Sugar and sugarbeet growers before the Idaho House and Senate Agriculture Committees, discussing key legislative priorities. The Leadership Idaho Agriculture class of 45 was also in attendance for the presentations! We're incredibly grateful for Blake, Nate, Christina, and Zach's dedication to the sugarbeet industry and agricultural community! #AmalgamatedSugar #Sugarbeets #IdahoAgriculture

Amalgamated Sugar Company was a proud strategic partner and sponsor of the 2025 Canyon County AG Forum, held yesterday at the Ford Idaho Center in Nampa. The AG Forum connects the agriculture industry and local businesses, raising awareness about the vital role of agriculture and food processing in Southern Idaho's economy. There were a number of impressive guest speakers, and the Idaho FFA Organization was very well represented too. We had a display table and sent all attendees home with a sweet gift—a four pound bag of sugar! Happy Presidents' Day from Amalgamated Sugar! We're proud to be an American company providing real sugar for your family. 🎉 Fun Fact: It wasn't until 1971 that the holiday officially became known as Presidents' Day! Also, Presidents' Day wasn't always celebrated on the third Monday of February - it used to be celebrated on February 22, Washington's actual birthday! #AmalgamatedSugar #Sugarbeets #HappyPresidentsDay

Did you know that Richard Cadbury is credited with making chocolate the symbolic candy of Valentine's Day? He began selling heart-shaped boxes of chocolates in 1861, thoughtfully hand-decorated, which quickly became a common symbol of love associated with this holiday. #SugarFactWednesday #AmalgamatedSugar #Sugarbeets
