A student-run advocacy grouping working to ensure that Asian and Asian American students are celebrated at Vanderbilt.
About us
After the Atlanta spa shootings of March 2021, a passionate group of Vanderbilt students came together to start the process of creating an Asian American Studies major and minor at the university. To put pressure on the university, students contacted Asian American alumni to provide support for the initiative, monetary or otherwise. Alumni expressed much interest in helping students and believed that there was much more work to be done for Asian American representation at Vanderbilt. After that meeting, our co-founders, Rohit Kataria and Angela Yan, created the Asian American Advocacy Project (TAAAP). At TAAAP, we believe that creating structural change at Vanderbilt is imperative to the creation of an inclusive academic community for Asian American students. Our hope is that we can foster an environment where students of all Asian American backgrounds feel as celebrated as possible.
